We are in the M46 "bullseye". Calling for 10-13" tonight and tomorrow.

Kids don't have school tomorrow (scheduled day off), but is should be a hoot me getting to work in Shepherd.

The first warm day we had last week, a big ol' possum crawled out from under the coop and went inside to help himself to a chicken, egg, and layer mash dinner. We figured they were just waking up from hibernation, as this one was fairly lethargic. He will have to swim the Shiawassee River, cross M-71, and walk 7 miles if he wants dinner at our house.

The next day a juvenile coopers hawk got one of our Sussex girls. He came back for three days looking for his dinner, but we made it hard for him. I hope he was just passing thru. Anything we can do to discourage him? Are firecrackers illegal? I'm thinking it would be considered harrassing wildlife.

Hope everyone has a great day, and the predicted storm doesn't hit too hard! We have babies hatching this weekend-wheaten ameraucanas, mille fleur cochins, BLRW and white rocks.

Guess what I woke up to....

We are prepared here. Got the generator gassed up in case we lose power in the barn. I will be shocked if we get what they are calling for but never hurts to be ready

Hopefully nobody loses power!!

its nasty and grey outside.

Anyone interested in a crowing hen? lol. Today she stood on my deck, which is about twenty feet from my neighbors bedroom window, and crowed loudly. Never have I ever been so confused.

I need to go out and scoop up dog crap and hose off duck poop from everywhere. Its cold out. But I was hoping to get that mess cleaned before we get hit with more snow.

I protest the snow storm. And veto it. Forbid it.
I bet it listens as well as my kids do, however.

I have eggs in the incubator and eggs under my broody Frizzle. I have crocuses peeking up out of the ground. Doesnt that make it Spring? *sigh*

Here on the N.W. side....we are supposed to get 1-2 inches today....3-5 inches tonight. Blast!! My friends down in Eaton county say they are getting more "ice" and prefer "snow"......I prefer neither at this point.....I know we all feel the same. I guess snowmobile lovers and ice fishermen are happy.

So I found a lady nearby who had a very pretty Speckled Sussex Roo...so I went and picked him up. Yeah...

instant cock-fight between him and my roo...and of course my roo was the one who started it.

I have 12 hens and he's still picking a fight.

I thought about letting the new Roo free-range around the coop but I think he'll get too cold out by himself.

I just came in from outside and my ducks all had something to tell me. They prefer that I put out wild bird seed. They do not like the scratch mix that I have. lol. I dont care. The wild birds and the ducks eating it all was costing a fortune. The ducks and chickens have pellets that they choose to ignore if I will pour out some wild bird seed- which is definitely not healthy for them to eat exclusively. I will win, but they are stubborn.

I am amazed at the catatonic state my frizzle is in. She was completely oblivious to me setting some food near her nest. She never flinched or moved a bit. She is full-blown broody. She hasnt gotten up at all that I can tell.

I found fifteen frozen muscovy eggs between two logs in the wood pile. They are frozen to the ground and have been there for awhile. Of course now that I know about that spot, they will never lay there again. lol
