A bit more observation and I noticed that her chewing seems to be more pronounced and noisier than the younger/other rabbit. Wondering if older rabbits have teeth issues? Soaked some pellets for her and she seems pleased with the new menu...

You might want to take a close look at her teeth as compared to the other rabbit. With commercial pellets their teeth can grow to longer due to not being worn down.

Olive,
Her teeth could very well be the problem. It could end in her death if it goes untreated. Does she have any wood to chew in her cage? I usually just throw in a tree branch for ours but an untreated 2x4 would work too. If her teeth are too overgrown, they might need to be trimmed. But more than likely, it's her age. I know people say rabbits can live 10-12 years but that hasn't been my experience. I'd say more like 6-8. Could be a reproductive illness since she isn't spayed. I just read uterine cancer occurs in up to 60% of female rabbits over the age of 3. My mom had a dutch doe a couple years ago who was older. She started to look and feel boney, didn't want to eat her pellets, and her coat was dull. She died from what we assume was old age since the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her.

Good Day All,

As some of you know, in addition to the peafowl and chickens we also have turkeys -- Blue Slates and Royal Palms. We will have extra eggs available this year. If you have been wanting to start your own flock of turkeys maybe this will interest you. The only cost will be that you pass on some of your future eggs to someone else. I would like to see the populations of these birds increase and it's also my attempt at a 'kind of a pay it forward thing'...

The Lilac or Blue Slate toms we have look like the ones Mr. Porter has on his site -- blue birds with rust colored bands on the tails and body. Handsome birds, I like them a lot.

As we don't have a Royal Palm tom the Royal Palm hens will be crossed with the Lilac toms. We did this cross before and have one hen from that breeding. She is a very nice bird, as friendly as the RPs but with a larger body like the Slates. Her body is white with silver banding. The RP hens may be available too. I'm waiting for a reply from someone who wanted breeding birds.

We are only going to hatch out a few of our peacocks this year so if anyone wants hatching eggs we will possibly have some of those available too.

We are in the Ann Arbor area.
Thanks, Jim -- IndyBlu

Happy spring break week all! My chicks are 5 days old today we are completely enjoying them, I swear they are growing as I watch them , wing feathers are coming in, the seem determined to fly out of the brooder as soon as they can..lol.
Have a wonderful week everyone!

Thanks for the suggestions/sharing of experience Opa and Diana. She does have wooden chew toys in her cage and she does use them. I looked at her teeth as well as I could on my own and didn't see any obvious issues. Tomorrow when I have a chance to have DH help me, I'll have him hold her and I'll look closer. I figure she's at least 5 years old, probably older, so I did consider that age may be a significant factor here. Didn't think of a reproductive cancer. She seemed excited about/interested in the wetted pellets for a minute or two when I first gave them to her but has treated them just like her regular pellets since, eating a little of each throughout the day.

Five more days until lockdown!! I'm so nervous! I candled last night and it didn't look like the eggs were as far along as my other hatch had been at this point :-/. I'm sure it'll be fine. It seems that this was the perfect incubation, 80% fertility, everyone is developing well, humidity and temp are perfect.. I feel like something HAS to go wrong, seems like it always does... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW, on my way home I got a call from my husband saying that all of the sheep got out of their pen and were in the neighbors yard so I had to stop at Family Farm to buy new fencing.. yay. lol Those adorable little brats, one of them was butting our guy friend in the leg lol..

Not sure about the others, but that last one looks just like my ISA Browns. The two on left front and right front. My others are EEs and BRs.
