I had the same thought. I'll probably use a series thermostat hardwired in line with a standard heat lamp base and reflector. I have a 4 foot stock tank I use for my brooder so I just need to make a fixture to mount the thermostat on that can be set, or removed, easily. I'll probably use pvc conduit to house the wiring. Now off to the drawing board.

Duckling #7 just hatched!

All the rest of the eggs must have died right before hatching. I just candled them again to make sure nothing was moving. I saw one with it's head in the air sack but absolutely no movement. All the duds are white eggs, 6 out of 7 live hatches were green eggs.

Not sure about this last baby though. It pipped on Sunday and couldn't get itself out. I helped it a little toward the end just to get it's head out but it's not as lively as the others were. All the rest were up and running minutes after hatching. He kicks every once in a while and is chirping a lot so maybe he's just tired.

Whew, now I'm worn out lol. 6 babies took over 48 hours to hatch and this one over 3 days. Friday half of the chick eggs go into lockdown. ALL of the bantams are thriving and wiggling those eggs like crazy!

58 degrees, 97% humidity, thunder, lightening and ice cold downpour going on...the ducks refuse to go into the coop or garage. They just move from puddle to puddle without a care in the world.

Lansing would totally be doable, I have family in Pinckney that I could crash with

The drive to and fro is definitely long though

and the Mackinac bridge is as scary as all gettout (I have issues with heights).

I'm with you on the height thing and I can't even open my eyes crossing the bridge let alone DRIVE over it!

I do it every year pulling a horse trailer!

Went to feed the 12 week old chickens just now, and it looks like the windows we cut into the shed are working well. Covered the squares we cut with permanent screen and poultry netting and then added removable Plexiglass panels to keep out the rain and cold wind if needed. Chickens were toasty warm on this chilly (55 degrees, windy, and rainy) afternoon.

Hoping it's just as warm in there when I go out to put them to bed tonight....

Brand new pullets adopted from the local hatchery are doing well. They were born 5/23 and are surviving being played with by our two elementary-aged kids. Heh.

The horses we board showed up on Saturday, and it's wonderful having them around. Two are here so far (a paint and a mutt (possibly paint/ quarter horse mix?), but two more may arrive in the next few weeks: the paint's filly and a retired thoroughbred bay gelding. They stay with us usually April- November, but because of the cold spring, pastures weren't ready for them until recently.

Hope your evening is peaceful.

LOVE your flowers, very nice. I can't wait until mine finish coming through. I have mostly wildflowers and sunflowers!

So after I cleaned out one incubator and went to spread out the eggs from the 2nd one, I heard chirping and pecking. I was thinking lockdown was friday. Oops, lockdown should have been yesterday. Aric is really good with remembering stuff, especially dates so I put him charge of helping me remember stuff better lol
