Really, where do you find these things??

Good morning and happy Memorial Day to everyone.

Here it is, almost seven o'clock and my barnyard is silent. It being a holiday, I set a bag of pine shavings in front of the coop door so the rooster and some of the hens can't get out of the coop. I thought it might muffle his crowing this morning and give the neighborhood a break today since everyone is home. I haven't hear a peep from him out there. Of course, I still woke up at my usual 5:00, without the rooster. Perhaps I will get the hubby to make a latch door and make this a permanent routine!

We received a silver laced wyandotte from a friend who lost all her chickens. She's in quarantine, but seems like she's fine. She stopped laying months ago, so hopefully she starts back up once she gets some chicken friends.

We use one of these crates for our quarantine room/brooder box/ duck house, etc. We even added one, with a window we found, to our coop to make a sun room. I love them. If any of you are around Troy, it's worth the $20.

If anyone knows someone looking for BBS Orpingtons...I have some for sale. I have some 8wk olds (blue girls, 1 black girl and a blueish black boy) and then I have about 6-7 part English BBS that are 4 wks. old. I just moved the 4 wks. old to the coop with the heat lamp...yesterday. They are at that awkward age with feathers half in and necks looking tall. The part English came from Renie's Peeps who got some from Gumpsgirl and Bama and Sandhill. I think they are 3/8 English and should grow to be big fluff butts! If you are interested or know someone who is...email me.
I just hatched 14 BBS Jerseys from Wynette and Marie Hall....they are lovely. Later this summer I will sell some of them also...I want a flock of half Orps and half Jersey's...probably keep a total of 13 or so.

Happy Memorial Day!! God Bless our troops past and present!

Yesterday was also quite eventful for us over in Mason! The storm/tornado came ripping through at around four, I had to run out into the blinding rain to save my Randy to bring him into the barn. When I got into the building I found my mother, whom had taken refuge and was, for once in her life, happy to see me. We have been without power ever since. Trees are down everywhere and I couldn't even get down meridian road to take her home. I drove through town last night and everything was pitch black, very creepy. Thank goodness for my iPhone.
