congrats on the pips Opa, happy hatching.

RRJen that empty cage can hold sooo many things. I have an empty one right now too! I would love to repurpose it for bantam chickens.

Meat birds are due in the AM. I have everything ready.
The little d'anver is doing well and seems to be eating and drinking on his own just fine. Fighting with the other banties and loves the special attention getting vitamins and yogurt treats.

While you all are at chicken stock I will be clogging for Relay for Life in my county. Hope you all have a geat time.

I caught it at the river park in my hometown (20 miles south of Lansing) which is part of the Grand River.

Not only was I like a kid at their birthday party when I caught it, but I was also upset because I thought I caught a big fish. It was VERY heavy. But just as my line reached the shore, I noticed a BIG bullhead following the clam at the end of my line. Fishing with clams is successful too (although, usually much smaller ones) so I left my line in the water a few minutes. But then it was like I heard my deceased mother's voice telling me not to let a fish get it Grrr lol

Maybe this means I'll now get money to spend at chickenstock??

If I brought 2 Orpington Roos to Chickenstock (free), do you all think I would be able to leave without them? I'm OK with them feeding someone, as long as it's done humanely, though a flock to live in would be best. I just don't want to cart them there for no reason, if it's unlikely they get taken.

I know everyone will have a great time and Opa's smoked chicken sounds scrumpcious!! The honey for sale sounded wonderful and the recipe for honey mead sounded great too! I will live through Chickenstock just listening to what everyone got and traded and sold here on the forum!!

The picture of the runner ducks ....they were cool. Stacykins ...your babies are lovely!

Question...I have 5 English Orps that are on week 8 and they are in the same coop as my almost 5 week old Jersey Giant chicks...divided by a fence for over a week. They all sleep pressed up to the fence near each other so I think they will do fine without the divider. The 5 week olders have a heat lamp still....75 degrees is where they are at. My older chicks go in and out of an enclosed run...if I remove the divider..that gives my little chicks access to the outside run also. Should I wait until they can take cooler temps or assume they will stay inside near the heat lamp? Any input on this????

Since one hen only liked 2 of the chicks, the other hen had 10 and things would get confusing for the chicks in the evening. Some would be in the coop crying, others would be outside crying. I'd give a little help so they all ended up in the right place. The rest of the time they were very happy to have the extra room to play. I think you should give it a try as long as you can supervise the first couple of days and they have the option of going under.the lamp.

Thanks Mish...I will give it a try but I think I may wait until this Friday...we are getting daily rain up here. Just needed to hear of someone else doing it.

Linda, if the chicks are fully feathered I wouldn't worry to much about heat. I'd let them out. If you are concerned you could keep the light available and they will go back under it if they feel they need it.
