Im so lucky. Ive never had a problem with any of mine. The 4 out in the duck run, 2 Reds and 2 Rocks, put themselves in and up on the roost, I just have to make sure the slide door is closed behind them, last night they were in by 9, probably cuz the couldy skies made it look darker.
The Chante's are always in and up in their loft by 9:"30. I just shut and lock their door.
The JG I do have to get out of the tractor yet and put them away.
My job has been so easy.
They've all been taking care of themselves right from the get-go.

I need some help figgering: I have now had my 2 ducks and 12 (down to 11) chickens for 49 days and have finally used up the 20 and the 50 pound sack of feed for them.
Do I divide 70# by 49 days for 1.4 pounds a day used, or do I divide 49 days by 70 # for .7? Im not good at math.

It seems to me that Ive gone thru 1.4 pounds a day. But I got the different birds at different times, some were a couple weeks old, others several weeks. The ducks were about a month old. I just wanted an idea of what Im going thru.

Of course Im not figgering in cracked corn, scratch grains, hotdog buns, June Bugs and watermelon!!

Hey Saddina- That's what surgeons do- they cut. If they can't find something to cut, they are out of biz. I wish you could see my mother's physical therapist- the guy is not a doctor, but has done more for her mobility than any doc ever has. Good luck.

well thats what I was thinking but I wasn't sure, thanks for the help.

I know the cost is going to just go up as the birds all get bigger now, especially the Giants!! :lol:Thank God for a bumper crop of June Bugs in the freezer this spring!!

Sure is getting warm out there. I just hoed the weeds from the garden and picked several "tons" of zuchinni that yesterday were to small and today they are almost lo large.

Last night I made another batch of raspberry freezer jam, that makes 17 pints this week. Not sure how many more I'll do, I guess it depends upon the number free berries we get.

Checked the broody hen and she sitting on one egg and two chicks. The other three eggs are gone. I guess she must have eaten them. Hopefully the ones in the incubator fair much better.

woooo-wwwweeee its hot out there

I've just finished cleaning out the time-out crates and switching around birds. I think I might just seek shelter for the rest of the day....at least until it cools down a bit.

With the weather we have coming we need to be sure that we stay hydrated and not forget the that our chickens will be needing a substantial amount of water. Thousands of chickens have died in the south due to the heat and we should take that news as a warning of how much heat affects them.

I'm getting prepared! I already have a jugs of water frozen in the freezer. I plan on refreshing the water supply daily and coming home for lunch on the really hot days to give the girls frozen treats. I am debating freezing a big blocks of ice with corn in them.....give them something cool to chip away at during those hot days.

That and some prayer.
