Well, it looks like my last duckling of the year either has wry neck or an ear infection. I'm leaning toward an ear infection. When he hatched his neck was turned all the time. Now he straightens it out but he will spin like crazy!! So I put posts in the diseases section hoping to get some help so I can avoid culling

We bought our first bag of sweet PDZ today. I can't wait to use it in the morning!! We went to Walmart and decided to stop at TSC. I only like it there because if bags of feed are broken, they will mark it down considerably. We got a bag of pig feed for $6!!! Plus the PDZ was on sale!!

I also picked up a set of magpies. I really only wanted the female but I had to take the male too. That's fine. Everyone is getting along great! Plus we stopped at the .99 store to get some t-shirts and found a large Little Tikes swimming pool for $4!! So I'd say it was a very successful day!!

Chickmate, the pullets integrated in with the others without a hitch and I got an egg from the ISA shortly there after. Not sure if the other is laying yet.

Eeeore, I was surprized that the one had survived. I had rapped the shell with the blade of a putty knife resulting in an inch long break. I then finished breaking one end off and dumped the chick out. The two other chicks were still a little bloody so maybe that why they didn't last the night. Usually helping them out doesn't work since the chick hasn't reached the optimal stage of development. Also the act of breaking the shell strengthens the chick improving its chance of survival. Often chicks not strong enough to hatch on their own will fail to thrive.

Good Morning everyone!

ChickwannaB...so glad your hubby did well in surgery. The sleeping part will be difficult for him I'm sure...but with his injuries he was already having problems with that I assume!

Hillbilly hen...You flock pictures looked great....nice looking variety you have! I'm going to have to cull some of my roos and wondered at what age you do that?? Mine are jersey giants and they are slow to mature and figured I had to let them grow longer. (they are almost 3 months). Meanwhile...all the roos 5-6 are starting to get in each others faces and I worry about what Opa said....they could end up killing each other. Granted they will be killed anyway but not the one I'm keeping. Plus...it is upsetting to the rest of the flock I think.

Today our little church is doing a fund raising project...we have orders for 100 "pasties" and today is the day we make them. There will be about 10 of us...we hope to have a assembly line going and do it monthly. I LOVE pasties...no gravy. (of course you put crust on anything and I'd love it!

Had a great day yesterday, my Mom and Dad live in Atlanta Mi its about 35 minutes north of Gaylord, beautiful area, they came down for a visit . My mother raised chicken her whole childhood in Kentucky, she is getting such a kick out of mine, she ran around in my coop and chicken yard telling what I need to change to make the girls happier..lol. Pinched my cockerels to see if they were fat enough to butcher, checked vents and told me who would start laying first , she adores my barred rocks and hates my RIR's..lol. The EE's are just alien to her green eggs WHAT? They raised chickens for meat and eggs, had meat once a week on Sundays, which was chicken, and she can tell me which weeds growing in my yard are edible. I adore her.
Wish time and work allowed for more time with them. Cooler weather YEAH, the power bill for last month is frighting, ug.
Time to get things done I had put off because of the heat.......

Hi Everyone! I'm from Charlevoix, MI and have 6 BA's that are now 18 weeks old today! Hoping for eggs soon! I have a 40' X 60' garden (which I enjoy very much) along with hanging out in my lawn chair inside my chicken run - nothing more relaxing - my friends all think I have lost my mind.....
