Indeed, patience is not one of my virtues.
My one BSL has bright red wattles and comb. She is the dominant bird since I have no roo. The other hens have started the egg squat, but I haven't seen the bold one do the squat.
Perhaps within a week or 2 I'll get an egg. They ate up all the oyster shell again today along with a good bit of grit.
I'm taking that as a good sign.

About this time of year, I start getting mice in the garage. I put snap traps out to catch them.
When I get one, I'll flip it out for the dogs as a treat.
I did wonder if the chickens would like a treat like that.
Will chickens eat mice?

I was at my friend's house today to finish cutting and splitting her firewood. While there, I checked out the tomato plants and found a big hornworm that had eggs laid on it from a parasatoid wasp. I used her camera and took a bunch of photos. She'll e-mail them to me on Monday and then I'll post what happens to a hornworm in a pesticide free garden.

Stay tuned, fans of Nature!

waiting on pins and needles........

Let your chickens free range.

I do. The mice have a tunnel under my shed - housing; it's warm. Also my garden is close by and I saw one in there also.

RAT TERRIERS, excellent mousers. Even a small one isn't afraid to go up against a rat. Ive had a few in my lifetime. Not always good with children tho.

I caught a Chantecler running around with a dead sparrow in it's yap...I took it away tho fearing it might spread some bird disease. Never know what may have downed the sparrow.

Well, bring your dog over and we will let him did a hole under my coop! I set the coop/shed on the ground years ago for warmth, but now I understand why some folks put them on blocks, off the ground.
