I try to limit my time on the computer in the summer. It is to nice outside to waste time in the house. Steve-maybe we will see you at the fair. We live in McMillan (by Newberry). Miss_jayne, you need to come up here to see the falls, the pictured rocks in munising, not to mention the soo locks. the there is the Keewanaw peninsula. I could go on and on.

My family will be heading to Mackinaw this weekend July 12 to spend the day at Thunder Falls.

We were going to go to the island but I think its over rated and the ferry is too expensive anymore.

But of course now that we have made the plans I see there is a 40% chance of thunder storms.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming southeast between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76.

Good to see more and more logging on to BYC. I know I enjoy reading everyone's questions and comments. I found out today how to make a rooster extremely upset. Take him out of a pen of 31 hens and put him by himself. At first he was frantic to find himself confined and now for the last two hours he has crowed almost constantly. It's his fault for liking rough sex to much. The older hens were starting to get mighty bare from his antics. It was either move him or start putting saddles on the hens to protect them from his feet. It's bad enough that I'm having to put diapers on my mother's bichon. Don't need anymore tasks. The cage I built should work out for a future brooding cage or isolation pen. At first I wanted 6 hens, I now have 40. Build a coop, build a run, build a tractor for the cockerels, now this pen. Does this contagion every lessen?

I'm up near West Branch (about 1/2 way between Detroit and the Bridge) but I'll be relocating to Saline soon. I'll be staying with my mother who lives in city limits, anyone know if you can keep 4 hens in Saline? I know you can keep 5 hens and 1 milk goat in Ann Arbor, but Saline is its own municipality. Just checking

What I was able to find on municode.com, saline doesn't have any restrictions other than they can't be noisy or smelly. Pretty much you have to keep them sanitary and from annoying neighbors and you are in the clear. You could call them yourselves, but you may not get an answer you like. Check it out for yourself on municode.com

Thank you, Tororider, for posting the Municode.com link. I have been searching to find the code for my area of Michigan. It looks like I can have up to 4 chickens in Hillsdale Co. What a help that was!

Thanks for the site, I'll check it out. My boyfriend and I just returned from the U.P and our neighbor who was chicken-sitting remarked at how calm and docile the girls were.

My mom had an issue with one of her neighbors over the neighbor's aggressive, loud dog and we were apprehensive that the chickens might get some vengeful neighbors calling the police on us. But she just called and said her neighbors (with the problem dog) just moved out, the rest of the people are pretty laid back.

For those considering coming to the small animal sale at the Eaton County Fair, here is what my kids (I am the Sm. Animal leader in our club) are selling:

Grand Champion young breeder pen of partridge silkies
Reserve Champion young breeder pen of BTW japs
Reserve Champion best bantam male, White faced Black spanish cock
Young breeder pen of Americana/EE's - very pretty
Fantail pigeon

I am so proud of "my" kids, they did really well this year. I especially love it when they do well in showmanship as it shows a good knowledge of their animals. Between my club and my friends (we do alot together) three of our kids got into showmanship sweepstakes, one in his first year! I just love fair week, it is stressful, but I still love it!

Our club of 8 kids brought home 19 trophy's, numerous ribbons, 6 top ten awards on crafts and 3 Judges Choice awards! Our kids show dogs, poultry, rabbits, crafts and usually goats, though not this year. It is ok to brag when they are not all your kids, right?!

Sweepstakes is Saturday at 10 am and the Small Animal Sale is at 2 pm. Watch for Circle T Riders kids!
