I feel your pain on this one, our bullmastiff-mix (also a rescue) is phobic of about anything noisy, the vacuum cleaner, fireworks, gunshots, thunderstorms... I could go on. It seems to be getting worse as he ages too. I used to put him in his kennel when I vacuumed so he wasn't running around the house in a panic knocking everything over, until he bent the wires on his door and broke out. In our old house he got himself so worked up once that he ran right into the wall and dented the drywall with his huge head. So now he goes in the garage when I vacuum, but he still just absolute shrieks and it makes me wonder what the neighbors must think... :roll eyes: Here is this gigantic dog, and he's just a big baby. And when it storms his screeching begins at the first sign of lightning. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night either... and is it just me or do thunderstorms seem to always happen at night?!

So I understand your frustration, we've had him for six years now, and while I feel terrible for him because I don't know what happened to him to make him so afraid of noises, it certainly does get old after a while. Especially when you feel like you have tried it all. If you hear anything about the thunder vest, let me know, I'm interested to know more about it too.

Well, we know our rescue was in 6 different homes before she got to us and she was abused. She was going to be taken to the shelter but my DH couldn't bare the fact that if she went there, she would be put down. She had MAJOR behavioral issues, especially her aggressiveness towards adults. :: sigh :: Not my first choice in dogs but we have worked hard with her over the almost two years we've had her. Two weeks ago I had friends over and she happily walked up to them to be petted and loved (HUGE difference from the scared, wild barking, snapping crazy dog of a year ago).

So despite her thurnderstorm issue, excessive shedding, and the fact that, given space and opportunity, steals food (serious counter surfer), completely different dog. LOL if we have parties she must be in her crate. One time she ate $30 worth of gormet cheese...I was one hot momma that day.

Your description sounds a lot like a dog a friend of mine got from a shelter not too long ago. Hers was male though. They ended up having to take him back to the shelter and I suspect he was probably put down. I don't know who adopted him to them in the first place, they live on a small lot in town with a preschool aged son, and this was their first EVER dog. Not a good match at all. I offered to take him and work with him for her but they are a state away and we never could work it out.

I agree with Olive. I would send the neighbor a bill for your birds that were killed and/or injured. Hopefully your Sizzle is hiding. Please keep us updated.

I know this will be of no help, it's really intended as a JOKE, so please take it that way. I have friend who'd tell you "just shoot the basta**s and let God sort them out" I was told that was a saying they had in vietman. Then again, there's always " "shoot first, ask questions later" also just a JOKE!!

Im glad my neighbor to the east moved away. Her 2 labs repeatedly came running thru our yard in the middle of the night, setting all my terriers in the house to yapping, then they moved onto the next neighbors. This went on all last winter and most of the spring. Got quite annoying, so I know how ya feel. And she put up a 6 foot stockade fence! I didn't understand it. Just easier I guess to open the door and let them run the neighborhood. No concern to her.

I see alot has been going on. You miss a day or two and it's hard to catch up on what's happened & who's doing what.
Famer Andy all I can say is wow......your wife is so fortunate to be able to sew like she does. The kids costumes are adorable. My S-I-L can sew like a wizard also and I've always been envious. Thank you for sharing your family blog....You are blessed with a wonderful & talented family.
I have my coop sanitized for the winter, took a fecal sample to the vet ( haven't heard anything yet

....they only call if positive) and just need to get back out and put the pine shavings down. The girls are enjoying the sunshine and the garden except for 2 of my BO who are late layers in the day. They keep hanging around the coop and can't figure out why I won't let them in. I know I'll have to go on an egg search later.
My DD's horse show went well. It was a beautiful day to be outside all-day long - spite the muddy arena!! In 4 of her 5 classes she placed in the top 4 placings (1-2ND, 2-3rd, 1-4Th). Her trainer was very pleased with her for she rode in the Novice Division and she was the youngest amongst the other riders (aged 12-18).
The costume parade was canceled due to the show running behind caused by the normal delays that always occur and some very muddy horses. It was long day and there were a lot of tired riders, horses, & parents. We did partially dress the pony for a pic since I spent the night before sewing those darn bat wings. I included a pic of her competing also.

It was nice that you offered to take him to work with him. I do have to say, a HUGE part in my rescue's behavioral change, was my sweet playful Bichon, Diva (pictured in my avatar). It was amazing how well they bonded together and how Diva kept her at ease. I tried to do socialization traing seperately but it was clear that Nala (rescue) was much more confident and calm with Diva around. So, in that, my DH & I can't take all the credit for her transformation BUT I can say that given the right circumstances a frightend abused dog can be trained and become a loving, playful, attention hog that we all love in our furry pals.

...if only she were hairless.....I often dream....

Taprock, call the PD and find out. I know here, there are some area's where the PD, animal control will put dogs down for attacking livestock. My friend son Van, he had sled dogs, well his lead dog got loose, went down a ways and was chasing their chickens. The dog was shot on site, and they were told that there was nothing they could do about it, as the farmer had a right to protect his livestock. Sad, because the dog didn't actually kill any birds, was just chasing them around. BUT that is the thing. He could have killed them and may have if he had actually caught one. I mean its a husky. How close to wolf do you need to get, they are really only a few steps away. Some husky owners probably would not agree with me, but considering its heritage, just like my terrier, I am not inclined to trust that it would decided its a good lunch. I had a brit that loved to chase every duck he saw, never caught one, but I am sure if he had, it would have been bye bye for the duck, and HE was not trained for that, but HELLO! Bird dog.

Where I am at, I have to call animal control first. Catch the dog IF I can, and cage it till animal control can come and get it. To close to urban homes to discharge firearms at moving targets.

M.sue- Thank you for the kind words. I am a very fortunate man to have such a wonderful woman to share this crazy life with.

Just leave it be. Lilacs are hardy shrubs. Darn things are difficult to get rid of.
It was a rough year for dampness related ailments; mungi and mould were problems everywhere, but not typically too harmful.

I've been trying to kill one for 5 years! Those things just don't die!

Sorry about that! Did you call the police? I don't know if they could have taken a report or not or documentation.
