Ive got a similar issue going on in the house. took a cat to the vet with some pretty bad skin problems I hadn't noticed before, (not the cat person in the family). I was fearing mange but vet said NO, looks like allergy to flea bites. I know I have been seeing them on my tan chihuahua, I can set with him on my lap and back comb thru his fur and pick them off, crushing them with the backs of two thumb nails.
Vet sold us some stuff. I have to treat the whole HOUSE after a good vacumming, with some spray stuff, for three months. Put these drops on the critters, 3 cats and 5 terriers, and wash all the bedding, vacuum the couches, car seats etc and spray with this pesticide stuff. It gets costly when you have as many as we do. One sick cat and hundreds of dollars later........

Just a tip, get some Borax (like for roaches) and give a few good puffs into your vacuum cleaner bag before your vacuum. It will kill the fleas that get vacuumed up - otherwise unless you take the bag right out, they will just crawl back out of the bag. We learned this when we moved into our new house. We went camping for the weekend and came home to a total infestation (like you stood on the carpet and your feet and ankles were black with fleas - SO GROSS!!!) We had the entire house bombed and the pest guy told us to vacuum everyday and to put the borax in the bag. It also works if you are vacuuming up those asian ladybugs. The borax dries out their exoskeleton.

FLEES! YUCK! Anyone try Cedarcide?

ALSO, there is a guy down in Allegan asking 35 for a pair of silkies. A splash female and a blue male. Am I wrong in thinking this is way to much to be asking? Heck I got my faverolle trio for 25 and I got my 3 dottes for 21... I have no problem paying for an established healthy bird, but 35 for 2? Maybe a quartet....

Welcome Simple life

Wait, Theron, are you trying to say that we can't get one that says Theron's Fowl Farm on it? Because of course that's what I really want!

No, they are great shirts. Just seems there is a perfect blank space for... I don't know... something like "Theron's Fowl Farm" on it???

BTW, the two 5 day old Golden Sebrights I got from you at Chickenstock are doing great and are very beautiful. They have integrated well with the older hens, although they are quite clannish and if the two are even briefly separated (like one hops out of the coop while the other one hesitates) the lamentations are loud and endless until they are within inches of each other again. Quite amusing (although I'm sure not to them...) But Theron--I'm thinking that they're both pullets??

They are 19 weeks old now, and I know Sebrights are hen-feathered, but no signs of comb or wattle development, no crowing... So in your experience, when can you usually tell the pullets from the cockerels with Sebrights?

If it turns out they are both pullets, clearly I am on the hook for a shirt at least! Even if I can't get one that says Theron's Fowl Farm.

You can get a shirt that says theron's fowl farm on it if you would like. I really didn't think people would like it supporting a different farm than their own. When I raised sebrights, I could tell fairly early pullets from cockerels. At 19 weeks you should tell the difference. We are unfortunately not raising them any more so we could make room for other breeds. I will try making out an order form for the shirts in the next couple days. for now, just email me or contact me through my website. Don't forget to include how many shirts wanted, color and sizes.

I would like a shirt with Theron's Fowl Farm on it to also support your farm.

I am going to post a picture of the shirt order form on my website, so go there and contact me and tell me how many, size and color. let me know if you would like theron's fowl farm or Birds of a feather, flock together on it. We cannot do anything personalized to it. Sorry.

I'll have to tell my kids the song is on Veggie Tales. Not sure if they watch it or not.

Just out of curiosity I was wondering what you all store your feed & scratch in. I have mine in a lg. Rubbermaid trash can right now in the garage. Someone told me that mice can chew through the plastic....they've had it happen. My DH was looking at 50gal. metal drums. I was thinking on putting the Rubbermaid can inside the drum. We don't have a problem with mice, only a few here and there out in the garage and we always know when they are present....our Schnauzer is good rodent hunter! I know they will show up in the shed at some point....it's inevitable being surrounded by farm fields. They always look for dry land when it's rainy & cold.
