Welcome Chickendavid....glad you found us.

Chickmate: just too cute....Sachi AKA: The Egg Bandit!! lol and Worf...he's very handsome. My Uncle had a Roo that looked very similar. He ended up having to have his flock (which he inherited when purchased a coop) culled at the beginning of Nov. due to traveling for a few months and he didn't have anyone to care for them. I don't think it hurt his feelings for the hens were quite old and the Roo always charged him.

RBahmer.....how lucky for that Roo to have you & your friend. My grandfather always said "You can judge the character of a man by the way he treats an animal". Don't know if that was his saying or if he was quoting someone else but hearing that as a child many times over & over, it's stuck in my head......sadly I've seen enough & read enough to believe the saying.

. Too many years before I can retire!!!
Y'all have a good one!!

Good Morning all!

Rain and more rain. Unbelievable how much mud I have out there. The chickens are dry, though- guess thats all that really matters. My lean-to roof was leaking so yesterday, I put my daughter on the roof and had her staple down a tarp.

The broodies are comfy now. It would have made things easier if they had gone broody in the coop, but I have built their world around them. Thank you Raz for the bagged leaf idea. I used them to block off all the cracks and my straw fortress seems snug now.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Update on Roo: The little Roo is enjoying his life now. He has made himself at home with my friends flock of sheep. We have decided to name him Trash Can. His little leg is somewhat crippled but he can still get around and is loving life now. He is just handicapped is all. We don't throw something away because it has a handicap. My little Sussex pullet is a special needs chicken. She only has one eye and is missing a toe and she is absolutely my husbands favorite. He goes in her pen every evening and talks to her. She is the most talkative chicken I have ever seen.
