Nova, the bantam hen on the right is a Golden Seabright. They fly well but can be pretty flighty. We had one and she was much better off when we paired her with a Seabright rooster. It settled her down. Congratulations on your Silkie egg! Go Leila! ( I love your names of your chickens and I love the photos and stories).

Daron - What is the bantam hen on the left of the last photo? The one with the top hat puff on her head? Your animals look healthy and happy!

Message this morning from Keyt, she had candled her eggs and said all the Lemons were porous?? Something about this usually meaning a bacterial infection or something and to watch to see if any of them start to "sweat", get rid of them because they can explode and the stink of it is terrible.
Anybody heard of this?

I haven't candled mine yet, was going to wait till dark about 5-6 pm. Im afraid now I won't have any Lemons. She said the only good eggs were ones I tucked in from my own chickens.

Is there a thread for this sort of thing? Bacterial infection? Should I just throw all the eggs in the incubator out and disinfect? Oh me oh MY??

hope she will b ok.

I took pictures of the run I built, but my 6 yr old doesn't feel like sharing the computer... Says I can use this one... Sheesh, when did jumpstart and PBS kids become more important than my handy dandy winter run!

lol

what a foggy morning!

Sorry to hear your fav is sick taprock! I think you are one of the people who emailed me MSU doctor info when mine were sick so I know you are getting good info from Dr. Fulton. What are the symptoms?? Soft shelled rubber eggs?

My son found her hiding under the nest boxes, laying down. She is alert but lethargic, can stand but lays down. She was drooling, not now. She seems to be panting a bit, but she could be hot after the drastic temp change - 26 outside to 60 in the basement. She had a large amount of liquid come out of her, not sure if it was urine or part of an egg. I gave her around 3 cc's of a mixture of vitamin, calcium, karo syrup and water. She was twitching a little but doesn't seem to be now. I was worried about Marecks because my older birds were never vaccinated - had no idea starting out - all the younger have been. Dr. Fulton said if that was the case she wouldn't be able to stand even for a short time. So I guess wait and see and keep an eye on both her and every one else! My DH will be so THRILLED to find a chicken in the basement again.

But you know it has been a record of 6 months without anyone in the basement!

That hen is a Icelandic. All the chickens in the pictures are Icelandics and one Sebright bantie.
Here is a better picture of her-

Daron,
I googled images of icelandic hens. That does not look like an icelandic hen.
We had one like that and we were told it was OEGB and Silkie.
Do you know for sure that it is icelandic?
Thank you.

edit - note the top hat on it's head (Silkie trait?). Also is she a bantam?

From what I've read you can have some vaccinated (Marek's) chickens and some not and the vaccinated chickens WILL NOT be a transporter or carrier for Marek's to the non vaccinated. I read up a lot on this about a year ago and would have vaccinated all mine except I'm not handy with needles and my hubby really doesn't want to be involved with my hobby (chickens).
Those are unusual symptoms....have not read anything that fits that description. Good luck with your Polish Taprock.

One of my Marans eggs was porous and it hatched. I watched it carefully and cleaned my hands real good whenever handling the eggs. So I don't think all is lost for you.
