All of my BA's are so sweet, even the roo, which is why DH wanted them for breeding. I just got an incubator for Christmas and the main thing stopping me from trying it out right now is the fact I have no where to put chicks.

Well heck, don't let that stop you. You can hatch them out and give them to me lol.

Just ordered some Euskol Oiloa (basque chicken) eggs for March. They sounded so interesting I couldn't pass them up.

Would you be willing to sell a couple chicks if you have good hatch?

Some ice cream insperation from Cuisine at Home:
Rasberry crunch add-in: Toss 2 c. fresh or frozen rasberries, 1/2 C. suger, and 2 Tb lemon jc. together. Cover and refridgerate to 40 degrees (2 hours,) stirring and mashing into chunks after an hour. (you need 1 1/4 C. granola in a seperate bowl)
Vanilla base:Whisk 2 eggs and 2 yolks until light and fluffY (1 min). Whisk in 1 1/3c. sugar a little at a time until blended (1 min.) Add 1 1/3c. cream and 1 1/3c. whole milk. Stir in 2 ts vanilla extract. Chill to 40 degrees (2 hours ) .
Putting it together: Freeze vanilla base in ice cream freezer until it reaches soft serve consistancy. Stir in all but 1/2c. of the berry mixture to the base. pour 1/3 of the flavored base into an airtight plastic container; use some of the reserved granola and berry mixture to top. Repeat to finish other 2 layers.

haven't tried it yet, but anything put together by these 2 companies is gonna be good!

AngelaB.....Nice looking chickens you got there.

Does anybody's chickens not like the snow? Mine don't.

I literally had to coax mine out of the pen and they didn't venture far....they don't like the snow! They act like it's got cooties or some thing and hung around close to the pen. My little bantam Sparrow flew from the coop to the wood pile to avoid walking through it. That's approximately 35 ft and then flew back to the coop when she was done picking around. Guess they prefer their snow free pen.

Msue, throw a little hay or straw on top of the snow and they will jump right in.

Never minded the smell of horse manure - of course I worked at a riding stable and by the end of the summer everything I owned smelled like horses.

Taprock, hopefully I will have extras

but I don't want to count my chickens before they are hatched. You are top of the list. I am going to try to add some welsummer and EE eggs also. Hoping to join the Easter hatch.

Can you believe that my Icelandics did not like it [the one day when we had snow] It was the day to let the BA's out to free range and my two older girls have seen snow before so no problem. The rest of the group followed them out of the run... at a bit slower pace.
