I built my coop inside the garage but the hen door is just a hole that is open all the time. On the outside, I stacked hay bales to make a little tunnel so that rain and snow don't blow in. So the hens can come and go as they please. Mine are out all day long unless they go in to lay. They also have shelter outside in the form of a 10' x 20' tent-garage, they go in there if it is extremely windy or rainy. But as often as not, they are out scratching in the elements.
Also, I have no added heat or light in the coop per learning from folks here.
thx ...i have a light in the coop....and run is covered well....was just worried about it being so cold out.....they came out and eat and went back in lol...peace
