love the chicken create I need to stop in at Good Will more often. Olive.....Thank you for clear & helpful description. I've heard about chickens getting egg bound but never knew what to look for except the walking funny part which could be due to a number of other reasons.

Fuzzybutt......My chickens get bananas a couple times a week, occasionally more depending if I have extras or not. You mentioned you had a few sandpaper eggs. I have noticed a few sandpaper eggs also and was wondering why. Too many vitamins makes sense and I was thinking maybe calcium was the culprit. I will definitely cut back on the bananas and see if I still get any.

I have read that Fluebenvent does not require disgarding eggs, but it was some time ago that I researched it and it was not easily attainable at that time. I went with Ivermectin mainly because I already buy it for my dog and it can be used for other critters as well. One less bottle laying around.

Missed a dandy rooster tangle yesterday evidently. When I went out to close the run door I found a dandy pile of saddle feathers. Looks like the Wyndotte lost to the EE again. Eggs are still coming steady. 17 layers usually give 10 eggs a day. A bantam egg is thrown in for good measure too. They still get to free range a couple hours each day and the mild weather has provided them with a supply of bugs. Any help for the feed bill is greatly appreciated.

I too use leaves but only in the runs.

Prayers will be going out for the cancer friend. It is subject near and dear to my heart. My mom had a kidney removed and is doing okay. My grandmother died from the same cancer. My mother-in-law Irma passed when my daughter was only 4 after a long battle. Friends are still battling recuring episodes.

I need egg customers. I think I may need a bigger sign. I am not sure about the rules around here so I have a small sign up by the house. It's the old don't draw too much attention to yourself just in case my operation is illegal.

Wow. Lots of reading today!

Farmerboy- we had my brother-in-law's wedding 3 weeks ago and we're still feeling out of sorts from it all.

Olive- good advice on the free ranging. I let my girls out, but do not stand guard over them. I check on them from time to time, but otherwise just let them do their own thing. They have adequate cover if needed. Not to mention 6 roos on the look out.

1muttsfan- you're right on the red maple leaves. They are toxic to pigs, as well. Thankfully, we do not have them so we can put our leaves in the pig pen in the fall instead of burning them. I would hesitate to use leaves in the coop, though.

Nova - So sorry about Buffy, you made me teary, imagining if it had been my Faverolle. Your pair were so beautiful, I really hope you end up with a baby from her egg. There was a hawk around here today also but it was too windy for everyone and they didn't want to come out.

Does anyone have the number for the guy in Muskegon? I know he is supposed to have Faverolles... I would so get that incubator if I could get eggs from him... Heck, I would make an indoor brooder box if I could get chicks!

Leila has 2 of Buffy's eggs under her. I know for sure that the one she laid today is pure faverolle... The one from saturday thou, I am not so sure of. I am thinking that one is a Faverolle silkie mix... I was so looking forward to breeding her and Mr. Fluffers This spring. Was going to collect her eggs till I had 12 along with the dottes/fav eggs and incubate 3 dozen... So totally bummed... BUT, hawks gotta eat too, and it was a risk I took... I am seriously thinking of getting bird netting and making a 50x10 run with dog fencing and then pvc pipe over that to make a dome shape so I can walk between and mow when needed... I would only have to buy one roll of 50 fence, cuz I already have a 50 foot fence line up. Just run it cutting 10 feet from the dog run. puff the hawks. They don't deserve to eat my chickens. LOL. They can just get the neighbors instead. Just kidding. Kinda.
