OMG!! I have four babies! Mama did it!! The EE egg that someone added two days after Mama started setting has not hatched yet, but even if it doesn't, I'm 4 for 5!! I went out to give her some water and see if she would eat some grapes and soft bread and I heard peeping! As soon as I gave her the bread she started calling the chicks to come eat and they all poked their heads out to see what she had. I didn't have my camera with me so I ran back in to get it and these are the best pictures I could get. I'm SO geeked!! Four little black and yellow ones and one all yellow. And wouldn't you know that the one FBCM egg I gave her hatched me a little ROOSTER!!

He has a perfectly round little yellow spot on the top of his head. I'm guessing the yellow one is the ISA egg. Sorry for the poor quality pics, I only have a cell phone camera. I'll get some better ones later when she's off the nest.

Avalon, if I had room... I had egg bound hen once... When she finally laid, she pooped out 2 eggs! Wish you would have had such luck!

OH! And you would not believe how fast these little guys are changing! Ok, most of you would, but I didn't know! There was one nearly white chick, this morning, inoticed his head has turned a dirty yellow! Omg. So cute.

Well off to feed the broodies. Thanks for the info on The egg situation. Oh I miss the 8 eggs a day... With losing 2 hens, and 2 going broody... 4 eggs now on a good day! Lol. Hurry up Fiametta!

Thanks everyone! I feel like a new grandma! I'm worried about one of the chicks falling out of the nest box and not being able to get back in. The nest box is in the dog crate which also has straw in it but if one of them fell out of the nest they would fall down about 5 or 6 inches into the straw and they probably couldn't hop back up to the nest. I hope they stay put under Mama tonight and I'll go out tomorrow and add more straw or take another slat out of the nest box so it is easier for them to get back in. I remembered today that I gave my chick waterers to my neighbor when she had baby quail and now I don't have any! I found a shallow tupperware bowl and put clean decorative polished river rocks in the bottom then added the water. I don't have any marbles, so I figured the rocks would work. I lost my marbles a long time ago. How long after they hatch will they need water? I'll have to keep going out and adding warm water to the little dish to keep it from freezing. I also plugged in the heat lamp that is suspended from the ceiling and using a small bungee cord, pulled it toward the dog crate so it shines in and adds a little warmth in case one of them falls out of the nest and also to maybe keep the water from freezing. It's about 2 feet from the door of the crate, so won't be too hot for Mama. I was going to reach under her and pull out the egg shells but forgot. I would be so much more comfortable if it was spring and not freezing cold out there! What idiots we newbies must seem like to those of you who have done this a thousand times.

cant you put the crate she is in, on the floor of the coop? Like you, I worry about a chick not being able to get back in. They are adorable.
Mom will keep them warm.

Be very careful...I accidentally hatched out an emu, or an ostrich...maybe a velociraptor...not sure...I have no idea how the egg got in with my chicken eggs...

Chickmate, if the yellow one is an Isa then it must be a rooster. The female Isa's are dark orange.
I have rarely seen Isa roosters.... he might be special.

I had a chick fall out of the nest box once and get super cold. I used an eyedropper to give it food and water, warmed it under a heat lamp and it pulled through but Chickmate you have a valid concern there.

Mom2 - I love that chick. LOVE LOVE LOVE that chick.

Snowflake and Chickmate - thank you for the parakeet advice. These old folks are all over these parakeets - faces pressed to the bars, three people sitting by the cage.... I'm pretty sure the parakeets could use a break.
Ill get a nest box and put it in there for a retreat.
