You can pick them up at most home improvement stores. Theoretically you could just the math yourself, but the meter is certainly easier.

Just got back from seeing War Horse. I swore I would not see this movie in the theater so I could sob in the comfort of my own home, but my friends at the equestrian therapy center where I volunteer convinced me to go with them. It was a pretty good movie and all you goose people will love the adorable gooser. But, do bring a tissue are 10.

The horse and goose live!

I am NOT going to see THAT movie. Just the previews make me want to cry. SO, will not will not will not. NO NO NO NO NO.

LOL.

Not kidding.

ANYWAY! Got the chickies moved to the new brooder box. I swear they went spaztic. Was so funny watching them run back and forth with out blocks from other chickies. LOL. I think they are much happier with all the room they have now. I am amazed too at how fast they are starting to look different. All these light colored chicks are now getting darker feathers. So amzing to watch them grow up. I can't wait to see the new babie when they hatch!

Speaking of that, what can I use to wash poo off of Leila's eggs? She will not get out of the box. I am changing her littler in a few days so it will be fresh for the hatch. But one of the eggs is really dirty. Cant be good...

ALSO! I check everyday under Skeeter because I have to get the dottes egg from under her. SHE HAS NO FEATHERS ON HER BELLY! I know I read that they will pull their own feathers out, but HOLY COW! She's bald! LOL and those eggs are HOT! OH, one of the eggs got kick out of the nest... I found it while it was still a little warm to the touch, so I do not know how long it was out of the box, but I am thinking when Vanna got in, she knocked it out by forcing Skeeter to move. I am really tempted to move Skeeter to the dog coop with Leila, but I do not know if that is a good idea... They are due a week apart... Will it cause fighting? I am almost thinking it might be better for her if she were inside the garage... Opinions please?

Well, have a great night all. Keep warm

Oh. wouldn't work then. I did that the first time, using the formula that was online. They wouldn't believe me. This winter it is different relatives, but we are still working out details. I think the math on the dog bowl was something like $5 a month. The wattage was about the same as a light bulb. At least these ones actually LIKE roosters! It was a welcome change. Oh well. it was worth a try. So long as i have my chickens i am a happy girl.

The chickies are not in it yet... I still need to put cardboard on the sides. BUT, here it is. LOL. This just cracks me up. I am goiing to run a 4ft dowel down the center so they can learn to roost. I wouldn't have bothered with the wire, but I figured cardboard would be too darn tempting for the dogs on its own. LOL I am going to duct tape around the lid, because ITS PICKY! Lots of pokey wire ends.

nice brooder Nova!

Nice!

How much and where??! My rubber dish is great, but i have to travel to get to my girls and i always worry that the water will freeze in the afternoon if it gets much colder...

I hate not having a "real" house. We waited too long to try to buy, always renting. Now that the economy has nosedived it is nearly impossible to get a loan.we even saw a house for only $10,000, but with no credit.... it is so frustrating.

I am very thankful for being allowed to keep my birds there, but it would be nice to be able to know exactly what i need to pay if i need to plug something in. It's not that i'm not grateful, but at $50 and up a month the eggs would be getting kinda expensive! (I only have 4 laying hens) I mostly do it because i like to know what's in my food, and you don't always get that in the store. Each family member who has rented that trailer is shocked at the electric bill, even when we do not use any. There's something going on with the electric on that road. The neighbors just down the road who's house burned down got a $200 electric bill, even though the firemen disconnected the box the day the house burnt! and "consumers" still argued with them! I think they called it a delivery charge.??!
fuzzybutt love, you shouldn't worry to much if the water freezes this time of year they will eat snow. If you change it once a day they will most likely do OK, ...notice the 'delivery charge" on our bill a few years back. Go figure? but $200. is a lot of delivery

Does any one use the new omega 3 feed from purina? Have been using it for a couple of months, Not sure it is worth the extra $$
love all the pics. baby chicks are sooo sweet!! Good luck to all you egg hatchers. ....Hope tomorrow is as nice as today.

I can't get any of mine to go broody, so.... but everything i have read says new mamas are kinda hostile to anyone near their babies, so... my guess is that the first one to hatch might not like the company? Is there any other way you can block access to the nest skeeter is in? Then when leila hatches, you can bump skeeter out to the garage? Mabie you could build leila a nifty new ground nest after the little guys start running around?

Consumer's are just plain old crooks. My elec. bill is $612.00 this month. It NEVER gets under $400.00. My house is just a ranch style home hubby built in 1975 and insulated to the max. And it is only him and I that live here !!!!

Agreed on them being crooks though. I made a complaint about our meter four years ago. Took them two just to send me a letter saying they refused to investigate. Still haven't. Four years ago our bill shot up and has stayed up. But what are you going to do? They've got you bent over and handcuffed down and they know it.

Something told me that I shoud go out to the garage and check the hens.

Little Gravy was roosting with the big girls and sitting in the prime spot. Maybe she is getting to be buddies with them since she lost Nugget. Odd thing was that Crispy wasn't on the roost. She was in the run door so I had to pick her up and put her up on the roost. She must not have come in before dark and couldn't see enough to get up to roost. But they are all tucked in together for the night.
