Hello! It's been awhile. My four girls have been doing great. No eggs for close to a month from my older one and the pullets hadn't started. UNTIL TODAY! There were 4 the coop! Woot! What is the protocol for possible frozen eggs? Can you eat them? Do you bring them to the counter or the fridge? I'm so giddy over the brown beauties! And the new site looks fantastic too!

Question:
when I scroll down any page, I get to this big ol editor reply box.... do I really NEED this there? If I try to get rid of it it says this action cannot be undone.
Won't clicking on the quote or post reply box bring it back as needed?

I usually just ignore it. But I'm still learning the ins and out of what fetures the new format has. Overall, I like it a lot.

Those are some incredible electric bills, ours only runs about $110 (have electric everything but heat here).

I am a bit concerned that my BLA is being left out of the flock activities. She is so small and the other 4 are so big in comparison. She also has a shy disposition so I was thinking maybe I need to find a banty hen for her to be with.

I had a hen with an impacted crop.

I had the vet cut her crop open - remove the hay and then stitch her shut. Then we gave her Baytril for 7 days.

Because her crop was so sore after all that, I bought Kaytee Handfeeding baby bird formula at the pet store. I mixed the powder with water to make a thick paste and I syringe fed this hen for a week and kept her in the house because she could not take in enough food to keep warm. Yes, this happened two JANUARYS ago.

I also bought meal worms and wax worms from the pet store to feed her, fed her pasta and any other human food she wanted because I had to keep her weight up! She lost a lot of weight while she was impacted and when they lose a lot of weight in January - they will freeze to death if you leave them in the coop.

This hen recovered just fine and it was important that I pull her through, but it took quite an effort. Keep us posted!
