Babygyrl - actually that egg does NOT look fertile to me...unless my computer is not picking up something with the color. All egg yolks have a milky white spot.

If the egg is fertile it will have rings of color. There will be stripes of the milky white, and the bright yellow yolk color, and milky white again. I think my eggs will usually show 4 rings. The circle on your egg looks like the typical milky white to me.

Usually, on an infertile egg the blastoderm spot will be much smaller and there will not be that darkened ring around it. I do believe Babygirl's egg is fertile, it's just not to the bullseye stage of development yet. The darkened ring and dark spot in the middle of the blastoderm are what I'm looking at as indication as well as the size of the blastoderm itself. Maybe the pictures are deceiving though.

Here's a thread with some very good fertile egg pics for reference.

OMG! I have to work today! I can not believe how much I have enjoyed not working the last few days! Friday and Saturday I got the new coop done. Monday I got the whole sitting room where I had the brooder cleaned from top to bottom. Got all the dust off of everything. Wow. What a mess that was. It was all over everything! Had to wash out the couch blankets as well. I have learned a lesson. No chicks in January ever again. Lol.

BUT now I have to go to work. Bummer. But I like to pay my bills... So...

OOPS! Sorry HBH...... I don't like to use the multi quote button because it seems to take up so much space. A
lot of scrolling going on!!

That's OK. I just thought it was funny since I am horrible at math and never do my own taxes.

yeah for the drake

hope he continues to do well!

Olive or Hillbilly ,Ope, if you are back, Any one that has had hens for a long time.....Question...... if you have ever had vent gleet does it always come with rash or sores? I have a 4yr. old BO that has had messy vent feathers since fall, have been trying to figure it out. and hate to cull her but I know I have to. I think she is the one that was laying soft and no shell eggs last year. the stress from the fall most likely caused the problem. and she is very thin. The skin around her vent looks very healthy. so even though I thought it was vent gleet, maybe she is just old and can not recover from the fall bout of parasites we had, Have brought fecal samples in to vet twice now and they were clean both times.

every one else looks healthy. she eats and drinks and runs around but is fluffed more then normal because she is so thin. Hope to get the deed done this weekend as well as a roo that can not be trusted as he likes to attack every chance he gets

Snowflake, I hope she will be ok. I wish I could help but I have never even heard of vent gleet. So I guess you know more than me

I wonder though if she always has messy vent feathers do you keep them trimmed?

Hillybilly Hen

Are your Delawaggers an EE del cross? I have a couple of the cutest pullets here with the smaller body, beards, and del columbian pattern. I LOVE it! They are so funny.

I only have the one and I am pretty sure he is a boy. But he is a cutie and very sweet. I will be hatching some more of those this spring and summer.

Ok. I checked Veena's crop. Her crop doesn't feel like a knot/ball anymore. HOWEVER, it feels super gritty. I am wondering if she went ape over the calcuim... She is out picking in dirt under the leaves, and was drinking water. She's not all huddled in a ball like she was yesterday when I noticed she had a problem. She is also pooping white, brownish, firm...

I just have one question: How am I supposed to waste time being unproductive today if you all aren't your chatty selves?

Just now caught up on the forum. My new computer is meesed up so it needs to go to Geek Squad for some magic. Reverted back to the old laptop, which is steam-powered and very slow. A full minute to load each page of the forum (I timed it).

I hope they can fix my computer, ALL of my homework is on that machine.

Thanks guys. That egg came from one of my EE's who lays an light olive green egg. I haven't come acrossed any more that have been fertile but I assume that, in time, I will come across more.

We saw Big Boy on top of my little white bantam cochin the other day. Too bad she's almost a year and hasn't laid an egg for me YET.

::mumblegrumbles ::

I have two 9 month old sebrights that have yet to produce one. If I'm not mistaken, I think I read somewhere that bantams take longer to get to point of lay. I did notice the other day, though, that the silver sebright's looking more reddish on the comb and wattle area so maybe she's getting ready.

Nova, I am glad she is doing better.

That is good. Hopefully, she will continue the upswing.

Hillybilly- that is a very nice looking delawegger, imo.

Raz- we just went through some computer issues, too, so I understand completely.

Just took a nice treat of strawberries, sweet peppers, cauliflower, and some scratch out to the crew. I have some very happy chickens right now.

Oh em gee! My eggs are just about due to hatch! I have three olive eggers and twelve duck eggs (OE eggs set a week after the ducks so they'd hatch at the same time) that are going to start hatching this Friday! Lockdown time here! The first hatch of the year is so exciting!

I will be keeping a few female ducks for eggs, while all the drakes will for sure become duck a l'orange. My father wants a few ducks for eggs (even though he doesn't live near me, he does visit often) and nearly threw a fit when I said all ducks were being raised to go to freezer camp! He loves duck eggs for scrambling and baking, hah. At least that means I can make friends with a few of the ducklings :D
