I only noticed it because she was acting distressed. Puffed up, huddling in a ball. I first thought it was related to the shell-less egg. But when I caught her, I felt the hard lump in her crop. Otherwise I would not have known had I not been paying attention to my chickens and not known their normal behaviors.
you can take fecal checks of birds to your vet for looksees a few times a year, of individual birds, or random checks, for worm issues.
before Veena, I have had only2 other issues. An egg bound hen and an inflamed blizzard that required antibiotic treatment. I look at my birds a P.W.B. OR, pets with benefits. I will take a bird to the vet if I am worried over a contagion... My vet sees EVERYTHING. And he is reasonable. Unfortunately he is gone on vacation this week. But I have the best resource at my finger tips. The people of BYC and the friends here on the MI thread to help with good sound practical advice.
