Well... I sure don't let them out before 8. LOL. Dude... they wouldn't lay them in there pool would they? I am planning to build a pond for them this year, I already have a huge pit dug, was a burn pit, but I figure that would make a nice pond with a liner in it of course, but I never burn anything in it, so, duck pond. LOL. So, are they lazy enough to lay them in a pool/pond? I have read that some peoples ducks will just lay the egg where ever.

Nova,

I found plenty of duck eggs sunk in my pond when I cleaned it out- back when I had ducks. They dont even seem to notice...or maybe they just dont care where they lay it..plus ducks like to bury their eggs. you could have many many eggs buried in your yard and not even know it.

Oh gosh, I hope not. LOL. I don't think so though, The area they are at, at night the possums and coons go thru it and fish out what ever goodies they can! Good think with those critters around, my coops are secure.

I was just surprised to see an egg today. I really wasn't expecting any yet, since I do not provide them with any extra light.

My DH got me one of these nesting boxes today from TSC.... we'll see how it works! My old nesting box wasn't set up right, way too much poopage to clean up on top of the old one, They all want to use the same spot so I'm hoping the one box will do for now.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I found the best way to avoid lower roosting birds being fouled by higher ups was to provide more than enough roost boards at the same height.

I have 4 roosting boards...with way more room than needed (meaning that I have empty boards). I even have other boards in the brooder room, which is currently open, and one more UNDER the poop tray...nooo...they want to sleep ON the edge of the poop tray UNDER the older girls. At least everyones butt is over the tray...

I have not had poop-ona-chicken. Yet. Figure it will happen one day. Just hope not soon.

My poor Aiden... He went sledding with his dad. I don't know what happened, other than he went face first in the snow. He looks like he became intimately aquainted with a gravel road. His poor face is all scratched to heck. All the scrapes and scratches go in the same direction. Must have been more chunky, gravelly snow than power. Almost want to knock his dad out, but I know accidents happen. But, MY BABY! He says it doesn't hurt though.

I have eight 3 foot roosts, which starting out I had no idea what poop board were so I have none. Then I have two big roosts that go the whole length of the coop - 12 foot. Less than half of my birds actually use them, they just fly up into the rafters. Occasionally one of them gets pooped on but amazingly rare considering no poop boards. I think what helps is the rafters run parallel to the roosts.

My poor chicks have hit that really ugly stage where they look bald and have feathers sticking out because the adult feathers are growing in. I'm thinking they need more heat now than when they were newly hatched. Now you can see skin on their whole back.
Today is miserable and cold. The guys are out ice fishing.

Not my thing! I am now tired of winter! I know we have not had a bad winter here but the constant back and forth between snow, ice and mud along with unstoppable wind is getting annoying. Either dump enough snow on us that we can actually enjoy it or I want it to warm up. Right now I would like warm! Off to find a blanket and a book!

Ok - this is muttsfan's fault!

I just bought more hatching eggs.... but they were Polish and they are on my "list" and they ship the same day as my other eggs will. Now I just have to worry that they all ship on time and we don't have a blizzard!

Uh-oh. That's never a good sign.

I want to try to intentionally breed for leakage. If 2 birds had dom.(visable) Lav, with leakage, then in theory wouldn't they then throw chicks with leakage patterns?
