That really sucks because when you put the box up you have follow The Rules......so many feet high & so far off the shoulder of the road.

Yea, NovaAman is right. If a teenager takes a baseball bat to a mailbox, it is vandalism and charges can be filed. If a plow driver takes it out, oops, not their fault! And you are right, we do have to obey very specific guidelines when putting up the box. This wasn't a case of heavy snow damaging the post, but the post and box in a million pieces like it was blown up by a bomb (or hit by a plow....

We had some kids come down our road, lost control, took out our mail box like that. Their were peices of it in the neighbors yard. I had peices of their grill. I ended up putting a notice up on craigslist say, Thanks for taking out my mailbox. I really wanted a new mail box and you gave me the perfect excuse to re-dig a hole, drive a new post, purchase a new box. Oh, If you would like the peices of your car back, I am sorry, they went to the burn pile along with the old mailbox. Since you didnt' stop, I didn't think you were that worried... Or something along those lines. I might have been a bit more rude... But since BYC is a family friendly site, I will won't be as rude. LOL

Plows for the county road commission and they keep track of who has taken out the most. You got way more snow than we did. We only ended up with about 5 inches and all of it blew on past so it's still bare in spots with drifts.

Bad bird day. Stupid Billy Bob the guinea decided in our snow and 30+ mile an hour winds to dash out the door and prance around on the top of the run. I tried to herd him in and he took off for the woods. He sat 25 foot up in a tree chi, chi, chi-ing for 20 minutes. Here I'm throwing snow at him and a feed scoop, both that are being blown around so I can't hit him. I gave up and went back to the coop. Al the roo was plucked bald again, someone took out half of Moe's crest feathers so she looks lopsided. Every thing is so gross in the coop right now, frozen poop everywhere and clumpy frozen bedding. Everyone was squabbling.

After about a half hour my son wanders out and wants to know what I'm doing and I point out the idiot Billy Bob who is still going strong in the tree. My son goes out and scares him back to the run with just a yell.

I open up the pop door and he runs in. Then I'm trying to feed miss broody cochin and all the other girls start pushing in trying to get her treats. They all had apples and sunflower seedheads earlier in the day so they are in no way neglected. I hear a ruckus and turn around to find my splash polish girl Tina mounted by Boots the bantam d'Uccle who has Wellie the Welsummer on top of him. All the noise brings in Mr. Fuzzy Pants who wants to save the girl. So I pulled all the roosters off Tina and she just squats and doesn't move until I pick her up. She was fine just trying to avoid the crazy roosters. Anyway I'm complaining to DH about the chickens fighting because they were cooped up today, his solution "just shoot 'em". Today I kinda felt like it.

I WANT SPRING!! Very envious of you southerner's 50's.

If they knocked it down isn't their responsibility to replace it? We had a teenager take ours out in the fall and their mother's auto insurance company had to pay to replace it......reimbursed us for the new box, materials and DH's time spent putting it in. I'd make a call.

Yes they are, call them they have to replace them, however down here they have a standard mailbox they give everyone.

Hello. I am a chicken outlaw from Sterling Heights. I am new to chickens being a city girl. My husband was raised elsewhere and has some experience. We purchased our chicks 4 weeks ago hoping to get an early start and summer eggs. I had no idea they would grow SO fast. We purchased 5 chicks: 1 silkie, 1 rhode island red, 1 leghorn, 1 easter egger and 1 isa brown. I look forward to reading through the Michigan forum and gaining Michigan chicken information.

Welcome fellow outlaw. You'll find lots of good information and friendly advice here. But a word of warning, this group is very chatty. If you miss a day or 2 you have a lot of catching up to do.

Check out the links in my signature for information on Chickenstock.
