I need some help. Is there any way to train peking ducks to lay eggs where I want them to? I have a large pond, and they choose to lay in the water or on the edge so the eggs roll in to the water. (I'll try to post pictures for a better understanding tomrrow) Frustrating to say the least.

Ok, after doing a bunch of research, I have come upon some studies that look promising to avoid surgery for the gall stones. I may still end up having to have the bladder removed. So, going to try this, cross my fingers and hope Mother Nature knows what she's doing.

First, lay off coffee, grease fill foods (good bye hamburger thats not 90/10), higher fiber (in the form of more fresh fruits and uncooked veggies)..

Why the coffee? Well, to much coffee aggravates the gall bladder, causing it to contract, so stones are felt more aggressively when they are passing. Most people have stones and never know it... Fried foods, greasy foods=higher bad cholesterol which can solidify in the gall bladder... Well, anyway... There is a whole process for the stone to start forming, and I am not going to bore ya'll with the details, but suffice it to say, thats generally it...

So, need a high fiber, low fat diet. Fiber being from plants in the form of veggies and fruit over chemical fiber. Less refined sugar as well.

Now the reason to NOT do the olive oil and lemon/cider treatment is this... Consuming large amounts of oil in any form will cause bladder contraction. If you already have a bad case of stones, this can cause a stone to block the bile duct, resulting in cholecystitis, requiring immediate emergency surgery to prevent death. As a side not, olive oil has been shown to increase the size of gall stones in both rabbits and rats... Research suggests it is unwise to use this treatment, called a liver flush, for gall stones.. It does not mean however that the liver flush is invalid, it is a good way to detoxify the liver, but not for people with stones.

So, lets get to the easy treatment...

Lecithin- low concentrations of lecithin in the bile are shown to be a causitive factor... So, 100mg 3x a days- this will gradually increase the solubility of the cholesterol, preventing the further development of stones.

Milk thistle extract has been shown to help dissolve gall stones and increase the solubility of the bile.

nutritional supplements..
Vit C 500-1000 mg 3 times a day
Vit E 200-400 IU per day
Lecithin 100 mg 3 times a day
Choline 1000 mg per day
L_methionine 1000 mg
Fiber supplement (guar gum, pectin, psyllium or oat bran, flax) minimum 5 grams a day
Bile acids-1000-1500mg per day

Also note that peppermint oil in an enteric coated capsule can be used to help disolve the gall stones at a dosage of 1-2 capsules (.2 ml per capsule) 3 times a day between meals.

There are several more botanical treatments, but they require you to know what you are doing when it comes to making infusions and tinctures, so I have not included them.

I hope this helps some one besides me out. I am all for natural medicines, so I am going to give it a try until I can get insurance, and maybe, just maybe I will be able to avoid surgery all together.

do you know what time they lay approximately? Maybe you can keep them locked up in a duck coop with a bread box (like they use in the stores for bread delivery) filled with straw. My runner/campbells lay before I let them out in the morning, I just have to dig them out of the straw every morning.

Who is going to MSU workshops tomorrow? I will be carpooling with Snowflake at 6:30.

I will be at the pavillion for my box lunch! Then I will follow you guys to the afternoon session on small flock poultry workshop.

Hope that will work for you Nova.

I am taking B complex vitamins for my carpal tunnels to avoid surgery too.

Daron, I was at a seminar tonight by Dr. Stacey at DBC Health center in Grand Rapids (on Michigan Avenue right near the East Beltline).
She is CURING Carpal Tunnel with NO SURGERY. She does it by stretching the ligaments with her hands and it hurts a bit and hurts a bit the day after also.
But it works. I am sure it costs a couple hundred dollars and is not covered by insurance but I would try her first before I did surgery. To get an appointment go to their website and fill out
a form. http://drdenboer.com

Oh, I will be heading to the health market here tomorrow while I am out and about. I will post prices for he supplements if anyone would like. Well, for the odd ball ones that is... Good nite all.

Nova - Good luck girl. I applaud you for trying to resolve this holistically. I understand you have to due to lack of insurance, but a lot of people would just sit around and complain, never taking any steps to work it out. I'm rooting for you and since I'm a person who prays, I'm also praying for you.

Mom - I'm praying for you, too! Please get going and see a Dr. asap. Get the surgery scheduled, your family will understand and support you. Hurry up and get it done before Chickenstock!
