The elephants:

This last picture shows why I think this hen, my sizzle, is their actual mother..because check out their identical markings.

Also, as you see...there is not one blade of grass in my backyard. I would like to have a couple truck loads of dirt delivered to dump back there and then plant grass seed.. however, if I get the dirt..they can only dump it at the driveway because our houses are too close together and a truck cant get back there. SOOOOOOOO, that would mean tons and tons of shoveling and wheelbarrowing and sweating and I just dont think my shoulder can take it. Think I could get dirt dumped by helicopter?

Good mornin' Michigan chicken lovers, Telluria, newbie here, thought I would let you know that the small flock class at MSU was great and I met a great bunch of people. I have been posting over at Meaty Madness since I am going to be growing meaties. Not that I didn't go into theMichigan thread once. I have stellite internet and the "latency" between looking for something and then getting it back down on the screen is way longer than dial up and this site is notoriously slow anyway, so it is kinda like I have to wait 30 seconds of more to load and get back a page I requested. I will work through it. This site is worth it.

On another note, I am trying to find a real organic non-gmo and non soy chicken feed for my future chicken herd, I will be leaving in about 15 minutes to see a guy who says he can get me the right feed I want for less than everything I have in the bank. I will be ordering 2 tons of feed so I want it right the first time. Thanks everyone for the support. Fred

Good Morning Everyone,
Gonna be a great day to be outside. Breakfast is going, already been to church & back and now for the great outdoors as soon as the pancakes & sausage are done. My main plan for today is to get the garage straightened up, my chick supplies out and get the brooder box set up. Planning on some chick-a-dees this week. The fever is spiking!!

I've been sitting here for the last three hours waiting for daylight and warmer temperatures. I need to get it in gear and work on picking up all of the cut branches from my pruning efforts. I also need to move a few more birds and then get busy cleaning the coops.

Both Hope and Granny are still sleeping in so the house is very quiet. I sure wish I could sleep in like that, but it seems no matter what time I crash at night I am still up at 5am. I guess it''s just my body's way of telling me that I can sleep when I'm dead.
Same thing going on here today. DH already has a nice fire burning.

You could always take a nap to catch up on your sleep!

They are sooo noisy. Well, none of the hens seems noisy now that the elephants are out there trumpeting....but see in that picture the Splash Polish?
She is strutting. She spends her life panicking. She darts from here to there in a frenzy..and if so much as a leaf ruffles, she runs in a terrified flash to the bush in the corner.

I actually feel sorry for her. She cant help it that she is neurotic. The black ones, not so much- they just complain loudly to the world that there is no grass in my backyard.

Where is RaZ?
He is noticably missing.

Randy-
Will your hens eat pellets? I have an entire unopened bag here that you can have. I also have Uggo roosters..and I am in need of a chick waterer- do you happen to have a spare I could borrow? I searched my shed...scary scary place in there..no waterer. Found a feeding trough that I didnt have to buy yesterday

but no waterer...

Mom2 - I have a waterer you can have. Think we could get it dropped by helicopter like your dirt? LOL! Seriously though, are there equipment rentals near the city? You could rent a skidsteer for a day. It would make short work of your pile of dirt and fit in tiny spaces. :)

She's very pretty and looks to be a little more solid built than the black ones. Maybe she's afraid she'll get her purty feathers ruffled & dirty!!

What is that? I will google it. That would be wonderful if there is something that could move the dirt besides me...I would rent it. I just went out there and pulled down all the dead morning glory vines and tried to bunch up the dried ornamental grass..that looked really cool when there was snow- but it decided to fight back...its THAT kind of grass that grabs you back. In trying to make it at least be in a pile, I discovered all the pigeon feathers. Didnt see them the other day- at least now I know where something attempted to eat the pigeon.

I tore down the plastic barrier I had put up to keep the wind/snow out of the chicken yard. The whole time I was doing it, I was telling myself- winter isnt finished..we will get snow again..cold snowy yuck...its March. But, still- at least it wont be for MONTHS as it would if it were November. I am going to force Spring to stick around. lol.
