That's weird, we went from dial-up to Hughesnet and it is MUCH faster than our old dial-up. I would contact your satellite provider because there is something wrong there.

And if I forgot to say it before,

Good mornin' Michigan chicken lovers, ........ I have stellite internet and the "latency" between looking for something and then getting it back down on the screen is way longer than dial up and this site is notoriously slow anyway, so it is kinda like I have to wait 30 seconds of more to load and get back a page I requested. I will work through it. This site is worth it.

Mom - Looks like you have a couple MORE little roosters there. The ISA's can be sexed at hatch by their color. The tan ones are pullets and the yellow/white ones are cockerels.

Breed Information, Comments, and Experience with breed:
. At birth you can tell the sex by the color... white chicks are males, tan chicks are females.

And the hatchery packers couldnt tell?

OR...

the TSC people couldnt tell when they put them in the bins and labeled them RED PULLETS?

AND...

I couldnt check my box of chicks BEFORE getting home?

*sigh* *insert dejected smilie here* Of course I would buy cockerels out of a pullet bin. Of course.

Looks like my family is going to have some chicken in the freezer this Spring.
How old should my crowers in the back be before they go to Freezer camp? They hatched December 15th...not sure there is any meat on them..not sure on anything, actually.. lol.

Hi chickmate, Thanks for the nice greeting, I will be doing 200 chickens, 100 in May/June for July fourth picnics and another 100 for Labor day picnics.
Raised 100 broilers about 10 or 11 years ago and how they are raised is different from what I was told then. So instead of feeding them for 24 hours a day, I will restrict the feed during no light hours. I will see how the live weights and processed weights turn out on these two groups. I think??? I may have found a USDA organic non-gmo corn and non-soy feed that is affordable. This week will be getting prices from three mills. Looking to having a few birds for lunch or dinner, maybe the chicken fest in Lansing???? Thanks everyone, will be sharing pics if I can get the old camera to work. Fred

Hi swampducks and thanks for the nice post. You are right I did have them in to look at this installation probably 6 or 7 times and what they told me(on the side) was that Wild Blue Internet had oversold the bandwidth and everone is slow. And not they have a new satellite and I have to pay 150.00 bucks installation fee and 79.00 month for newer faster satellite. Well, that will cost a few more chickens, er, dollars but I will see what othersay about the "new"speeds they promise.

Will be doing 200 meatie bird this summer in 100 chick batches. I will keep in touch. Fred

Ouch. Wild blue, eh? Are they, or weren't they connected with DirecTV? I remember reading about them a couple years ago when I was researching satellite internet and didn't hear much good about them, hence we went with Hughesnet and are pretty pleased with them. I hope they can straighten things out for you without dragging too much more money out of you.

Went this morning to get my yard wagon from Hope's dad so that I can start hauling branches. Then went and looked at a house that Hope's oldest son is considering. He wanted me to look at it and tell him what I thought it would cost to put an addition on it at and later date or if it has even feasible. One the way home Hope wanted to stop at Aldi's and pickup sauerkraut for dinner. $45 later we left the store without sauerkraut.

Now I guess I need to get busy and see if I can get something accomplished.

No pictures, but I just finished butchering the turkey. All went well, actually! It took a long time for me to do the entire process, because it was my first time. And since we had no pot big enough to scald feathers, he got dry plucked. He was a big boy, too, whew.

Welcome Fred! I was at M.S.U. also! Did I meet you? I hope you will keep us informed on your source for the non gmo/ non soy feed! That sounds good.
How can you store that much feed all at once and keep the rodents out and keep it from spoiling? I have had feed turn green and it was in a sealed container! Thanks for sharing your information. It will help all of us! What part of the state are you in?
