i said where's the heat, cause i wanted chicks, but this much so soon??! whew. Got a bit done today though, been working on cleaning up the coop. Got all the leaves out (I think), just have to keep washing to get into the corners. It feels good to get everything fresh again though. "My" bluebird has been serenading me again, and for some reason i had other ones come to the tree to join him, though i have no idea what they were. Then for some reason the feral rabbit we turned loose decided to let me touch his nose today. He has been getting closer to me everyday. I feel like cinderella or something! lol. (Just so nobody worries, he was a feeder rabbit we bought from a farmer who had them loose on his property, not a true "wild" bunny)

Had a run in with the neighbor/other sister in law over her weenie dog running over. I hate it when people try to pretend that their dog would NEVER do THAT. It only takes a second, and i have watched how aggressively he tries to get the wild birds at their feeder.I just don't know how to respond because if not for my birds he probably could run all over the place, but i don't want any of my little "friends" killed either. I can't wait till we get the little run built. Wondering if we need a dog too. (a bird-guard dog)!

AngelaB~ Good to see you again, your lovely chicks and niece!

Smart. Very smart. Do your general ed requirements at a reasonable cost, figure out what you want to do (if you are not yet sure)--and stay local so Theron's Fowl Farm lives on! By the way, I know you don't have your Sebrights any more, but just wanted to let you know the two I got from you at Chickenstock last year are both girls, and are laying really really well. I don't know where the "experts" got the idea that Sebrights are poor layers. I have one Sebright that is almost 3 years old, plus your two that are going on a year old. Then I have 7 standard fowl, 5 that are almost 3 and 2 that are almost a year old. (Just so you don't think the standards are all older, which would affect their lay rate). The three Sebrights are laying as many eggs every week as the seven standards put together. Two to three bantam eggs a day from those three. Plus they are adorable.

Uck. Lost a whole post.

Set 92 eggs today for the Easter hatch

34 Euskal Oiloa (basque)
6 partridge Cochin (standard)
3 Lemon cuckoo Orps
2 Buckeye
4 Marans
12 EE's
8 Birchen Bantam Cochins
11 Brown Red Bantam Cochins
12 Frizzle bantam Cochins

Still waiting for 2 dozen eggs from Wisconsin that seem to have wandered away somewhere - they will go in Monday if they arrive.

Hi Tom and welcome to the Michigan thread

I wasn't ready for 81 degrees today, two weeks ago is when we were buried under all the snow! I'm loving it but my body has not adjusted because I am not drinking enough water for this heat!

I took my son to our Bliss St. Patrick's day parade. The kid's did square dancing in the road in front of the store and then we got ice cream. I spent the rest of the day trying to be productive but it ended up not being possible. Every tool I needed seems to have run off or disappeared into our magic shed. DH took his trailer and bought all the materials for his garage so maybe things won't get lost so easily. Later we are outside and he says so where do you want your new coop?

What new coop? I had been saying I would like a tractor for the smaller chicks but not sure what he meant. Although you never pass up an offer of a new coop! I'll have to print out some plans. Our four new babies from 1muttsfan have settled in and mom is taking care of them. They are a bit slower and didn't stick with mom as much as the original 3 babies so I kept her in the yard this afternoon. Bertie the Polish with Bumblefoot had to be cut open again tonight. This is number 8 corn that has come out of her foot. It seems the more the swelling goes down the more spots we find. DH is a pro at it now and was done in under 2 minutes. I have been putting her outside during the day with press and seal over her vet wrap. It seems to work great.

Welcome to all you new folks, I lost track of how many there were! Best place to learn.

M2M - glad your doing better - you look like they beat you up!

Everyone is working on new coops and cleaning out coops. I would love to see some coop pictures. I hate mine right now and need some ideas. Maybe what things you like or don't like in your coops.
