Oh, and yup. The silly silkie is broody. I keep taking her out of the nest box. LOL. Maybe I will just keep taking her out several times a day... Think it'd be alright to worm her? I am guessing she will not be laying anymore eggs for a while. But if she does and I worm her, would those eggs be viable? I can mark the 2 she is sitting on now.... They are pure silkie... so they wouldn't get messed up. Stupid chicken.

Daron, so sorry to hear about your Aunt

Nova,

Silkies are walking incubators? Why are you trying to break her...now is the time to get the eggs of those chickens you have always wanted and stick them under her...

I am afraid the darn girl will die on the eggs! When I say she is underweight... I mean seriously underweight. You can feel her breast bone... SEE it. And you can also feel her pelvic bone... is that right? Well anyway, she is that thin. She eats alot. Just she keeps getting smaller and smaller. Thats why I do not want to have her broody. I only have to 2 silkie eggs right now too. BUT, I am supposed to bring her poop to the vet in the morning, and get an answer on if she's got worms or not. I hope she does...(not really) because then I'd know why she is so small. BUT if she doesn't, then I have got to figure out how to keep her healthy while she is sitting the little stinkers. I do not see any lice or mites on her. She is in a cement garage, with plastic nest boxes...kinda hard for mites to run an hide in there. I checked under her wings, her belly, vent, neck... She is even missing chest feathers again, so I know she's wanting to sit.... UGH!

I got some pro vi sol that I am mixing in with egg yolk for her. I am just going to have to wait till tomorrow to find out about the worms though...

I have been wondering why the last three days the egg production has dropped way down in my BA coop. I usually get 6 or 7 eggs a day from that coop. Today I picked up the one egg from the nest box and turned to go out the door and saw a dozen eggs on the floor in the corner. The stinkers!

Also make sure you put a bowl of feed right next to her. They WILL eat, if you have it there for them. Good luck with her.

Nova - I think you are doing the right thing to do a fecal check on her. Because if she is that thin and going broody then I think I would only worm her if necessary. I know you would like to hatch those eggs but might it be better to crate Leila and hand feed her for a few days to help her regain some weight? I really have enjoyed your Leila stories and the rare photo.
