I think the mallard's like the garage. I don't think they ventured outside all day even though they know where the door is and they watched the chickens go in and out.

Starting to think about feed for my chicks coming in a few more weeks. Those of you that are familiar w/ TSC - they basically carry two brands of feed. Dumor and Purena. Any endorsements or cautions of either one? Planning on 15 chicks. Will I need a 50# bag of starter? I know they say to feed starter for 4-8 weeks. Do they need the medicated starter for that long or should I just get a small bag of medicated starter followed by regular unmedicated starter? I am not aware of any feed mills near me, otherwise I would probably go that route. I think they have one down by Monroe, but for now, I think I will be going the convenient TSC route. Thanks.

Wonder if the remaining 3 saw something bad happen to #4 outside of the garage?

At the chicken conference that Snowflake and I went to we were told to feed 100% medicated starter for 6 weeks and then week 7 feed 3/4 medicated and 1/4 non medicated feed. Week 8 feed 1/2 medicated and 1/2 non medicated feed. Week 9 feed 1/4 medicated and 3/4 non medicated feed and week 10 go to all non medicated feed. The feed does not have an antibiotic in it just amprolium which inhibits the growth of cocci. That way your chicks can get exposed to what is in the enviroment gradually and develop some resistance slowly. I tried to buy organic feed of any kind.

Hello MI people!

I'm bored with the other threads so thought I'd drop in on you guys again.

Farmerboy/Daron - I'm so sorry about your aunt. Be strong for your Mom, she needs you.

And, having just finished a gazillion pages at snail speed ( silly me, I had two copies of Firefox open and BYC doesn't work well under those circumstances - takes over a minute to change page!)

Migraine - hear you, Himself gets them, I only get the auras so cannot imagine how bad they can be.

Hope all is well with everyone else.

Actually had some nice weather here in WA for a change the last few days. I went out in a TEE SHIRT! We sat on the deck and had cocktails last evening! We listened to the chorus frogs. It is SPRING!

Oh no, got a 'bator full of duck eggs, goose eggs, chicken eggs, and more hatchings due from breeders next week (Rare breeds, Saxony ducks, Welsh Harlequins) and 50 Cornish X meaties.

Goat is due within the next 2 weeks.

It's just started to rain - oh rats - must have jinxed myself coming over here.

Have a good night MI's, stay warm!

Good info Nancy, thanks. I remember you sharing that several weeks ago...just couldn't remember the exact breakdown. I don't think TSC sells any totally organic feed, but will check. I haven't actually gone in and compared the two basic brands...just looked online, and neither brand "boasts" that it is organic.

Hello TC! Glad you could stop by. Bye!! Whew, in and out just like that! We DID shower today, you know!
