If it would make you feel any better I could bring you a whole bunch of little chicks - I am going to be totally overrun the way I have been hatching lately

I don't think it will change...white doesn't normally change to black. Bunch of $ down the drain

I know you are disappointed but that baby is so stinking cute!!!! I want him!!! Too bad. I think you live quite a ways away... Otherwise I would steal him out from under you!!!

I can't get over how sweet and silly your Waffles is.

Thanks for the kind words on the horse, guys, even if I'm not sure I deserved them.

Waffles is fabulous. You will never need an incubator. SHE will gladly do it!

Juise, I go to the dr at the end of this month. I will have another ultrasound on my gall bladder at that time to determine if I am worse, or if my chosen form of treatment is working. I have not had any tummy pain in nearly 2 weeks, now that I passed that last stone. SO, I have hopes that it is working. My other problems now are stemming from sleep.. or lack there of. AND at my age, which isn't that old, but starting to be considered... getting there... isn't good. When you start nearing 40, your body just does not do as well as it does in your 20s.

I am starting to get up closer to 4 am to go to work. I need 1.5 hours to do my route. I have been working the boys into getting to be earlier and earlier. Of course they get up earlier too. LOL. BUT, that is ok. I still get a little more sleep. Since I am off the coffee also, I am sleeping better as well. I am a bit pissier in the morning though. LOL. Soon I will get some decaf. I know its not the same. HELL not even coffee really... but I enjoy TASTING coffee. I just need to not have the stimulant.

Jace and I got the beans planted today. We still have a lot to do. I have all the pots turned out on a tarp in my driveway right now. I am letting the chickens mess in it. I have dumped a few compost tubs in to get it some nutrients. Also need to go over and get a few shovels of rabbit poo to put in also. Carl has a pile that has accumulated, and boy does it really work nice.

Aiden helped me start the cocozelle, strait necks, marketmore cukes, bb zucs, cherry toms, beef toms, tri color peppers, regular zuc, burgundy beans. When Jace gets home, he is going to help get the cants started. Also help me direct sow he peas and red and orange carrots. I wish I had purple carrots. Just for funsies. I am going to try and talk my girlfriend in the Netherlands to ship me some seeds. She grows some yummy looking purples. Also the radishes need to go in soon. I can't find my watermelon seeds that I dried from last year... I guess I will have to buy some. Dagnabit. They will go in starter pots also. I got the kind I can just plant in the outside pots when the time comes to move them out of the green house. Yup, got one of them neat-o little green houses from Big Lots this year. WOOHOO. Starting them all on my deck AWAY FROM DIGGIN CHICKENS! LOL.

How long can veggies be frozen? I mean what is the shelf life? I hate freezer burned veggies. We have the problem the last few years of eating everything and not having any left to can or freeze. SO this year am doing 2x what I did last year. Wish me luck.

ALSO, going to try brussels again. Yum. I am the only one who likes them, so, I will just do a few so I can have a few meals. Maybe I will try some spinach too... We'll see.

HORSE & SADDLE TALK......right up my ally. I didn't realize so many of you rode or had rode. Did any of you compete?
I don't know if you've seen this, probably have, this lady is fabulous! Bareback and nor reins either

This is fabulous. What a beautiful bond & trustful understanding between rider & horse....truly amazing! If the bond & trust wasn't there neither would the performance be. I loved how she kept caressing & stroking the neck.
I love all the talk about riding and the differences between the saddles. Like cowboy boots, the saddle also has to fit the rider properly whether it be English or Western. Finding the right saddle can be difficult for each manufactures style vary as to what type of saddle. My DD has hopped on horses with other peoples saddles on and has often commented on how uncomfortable their saddle is and can't see how they can ride in that. Sounds like most of you that ride or have ridden did Western. Well, we're English all the way...hunter/jumper events. Some of the events we go to have Western competing as well and we always enjoy watching.
Someone posted....can't remember who, that if you're scared, nervous or have the fear factor going, the horse will pick up on that and that is absolutely true. If you get on one and think...Oh, I'm gonna fall or it's gonna spook that is exactly what will happen cause the horse will be able to sense your fear through the stiffness & rigidness of your body.....hence making him uncomfortable. Horses have great senses.

One of my favorite quotes in riding is...."If your horse says NO then you either asked the wrong question or asked the question wrong." Don't know who originally said it....lol!!

Little Katalin dug out and ate most of our sprouted beans.
roll.png
I am not sure how many are left, but it looks like we'll be direct seeding most of those. She also ate a good 3/4 of the hubbard squash seeds I had saved from my aunt, and half a bag of peas my mum had given me. I can't decide whether getting the kitchen sprouter out and starting some for her to eat will help, of just get her more obsessed with eating the sprouts I don't want her to eat.

I planned on knocking together the frame for the girls' garden today, but I am on day 3 of being miserably ill, so we'll see whether or not I can muster the energy and not-pukeyness to actually get that done.
