Hmmmm, already getting red... My 2 little ones aren't getting red yet at all. I wonder if I will end up with all female d'uccles. But still post a picture if you can get that blasted camera to cooperate.

Has anyone ever gotten a russian doll egg? That would be awesome... Not so awesome for the hen though...

Guss I might as well chime in with a suggested coop names "Hen Hideaway" or "Hen Hacienda"

To bad thy don't put rabbit on milk cartons.

Welcome Sara Jane. You do realized how hard its going to be to stick with only two. Be sure to click on the link in my signature line for information about our upcoming Chickenstock. It's a great opportunity to see a lot of nice birds, meet a lot of great people, and have a great time.

Hmm, I can't remember how many I collected yesterday, too long ago. >.> I think that sounds the most likely, though, since I was the one who locked them in last night, and I was the first one out to get the eggs. This doth not bode well.... I don't want egg binding!

I need some help in naming my coop. It's an old hunting shack. Which ever name I pick I will send the name creator a set of chicken aprons. So help me out, here's the picture of it again there will be some changes to it soon I am going to paint it a nice soft shade of blue for the sky the window will have a flower box my daughter and I will be painting some funky chickens all around it. I can't wait for the weather to change up here so I can get my butt outside and work on my yard! This used to be called the "Love Shack", and no I had nothing to do with that name, hehehe
Kimmie, lets see I will give a French twist to the names.

Poule Maison (Hen House)
Poule Refuge (Hen Hideaway)
Rendezvous Coq (Rooster Rendezvous) since it was known as the love shack.

Château Poule (Castle Chicken)
La maison d'oeuf (The Egg House)
The following montage is with Chickadees and the parents can get pretty feisty guarding their nest. I won them over with mealworms and they learned to trust me. So the day that the 5 babies took flight, I was there to give them a landing pad.
Raz, THANK YOU, for taking the time and effort to educate the kids. Too many kids today live in a concrete jungle and have no idea what is really out there, you truly have a passion for nature and try to pass it on. Your neighbor’s kids will probably remember that for years to come. I just have to say, you are so not that stereotypical big, bad, bearded biker dude...

I have silkies hatching out!

Congrats. What colors? We want pictures.

Tats are very common. Is it on the left ear ( it should be). Usually they are made at weaning. Sometimes the number only means a birth date, or which litter it came from. There is no universal system for tats. Good luck finding an owner though. Only implanted chips really have any chance. These are used for tracking purposes in rabbits, as well as other animals. My wife should chip me, ha ha! Next litter you are getting a Flemish. I'm holding one of the girls from this batch "just in case" I make it to this Chickstock thing. Craigslist the LOP unless you fall in love with him/her, lol! We'll be talking. I'll PM you if anything comes up - you do the same! John
ooh I wonder if I should take her to work with me and scan her for a chip. Never thought of that. Do people usually chip them? For show purposes? Thats actually a wonderful idea considering how they like to escape. out of the yard. I wanted to chip my tortoise- those are done by epoxying it under the rim of the shell, but then I figured nobody around here would ever take him in to be scanned if they found him.,
What happpens if you withold one of the girls from this litter and you DONT make it to Chickenstock? I really hope you and your wife can make it- it is a very fun time to get together with friends, and to put faces with names and talk. Its impossible to talk with everyone, just not enough time,
Of course, if someone lives not too far from you, and they coming to Chickenstock, they could bring the bunny along with them...

LOL! Today I let 10 new pullets (about 3 weeks old) in with my BR hens. The hens never batted an eyebrow as the little pullets went flying over and under them. My big girls are soooo understanding!
I soooooooooooooo much want to move the four week old chicks out of my kitchen and out into the yard. I will this weekend. Robin is taking the banties, and I am taking the others to my brother in law. I have the Uggo chicks that are going to Silly Chicken in my kitchen as well- and my kitchen is DUSTY.
Chickens have eyebrows?? lol
This is the smallest post I have ever seen you make.

how old is he? None of mine have red in their comb *yet*. I will try to get a picture of my d'uccles so we can all compare them.

That would be FUNNY, Sam. She is such a tame bunny, hard to believe someone isnt missing her- but then again, isnt it about time that the Easter bunny gifts are dumped? She could have been an Easter novelty.

Welcome Sara Jayne! That is my mother in laws name..very special name, indeed. Enjoy those little peeps- I remember hatching out chicks when I was in kindergarten! Long ago, but I attribute my hatch-aholicism to that experience today..

SOOOOO....I have a roo.
Don't know if you guys remember me asking about one of my chickens, and saying that it seemed different and that I didn't know squat but I thought it might be a roo? Well I was right. I went out to the coop this morning to let them out & feed them, and they were all being super quiet, which isn't normal. They usually start chirping when I open the gate. I looked in the window and he was standing right in front of it and let out this little half-a.s.s. crow. Then everybody else chirped at me. Then he did it again. It was so hilarious. I filled their food and he did it again, nobody had moved. They didn't come out of the coop, but they don't usually at that time when I go out there that early. Every time I said something to him, he crowed. It was so cute and funny, but now I just hope he stays a nice roo and doesn't become a jerk.

Everyone please do not skim over my post. We are really curious. I dont mind keeping this sweet bunny, but if she has a legit owner who lost her- well, they deserve her back.
Do you know what the ear tattoo means?

Could you find the breed club for the type of rabbit it is, and see if they would have a registry with the numbers? I have no idea what they mean, I thought the numbers were made up by the breeder. What about posting in craigslist in the area where the rabbit was found, or looking in the lost n found? We had a whole bunch of rabbits someone just dumped on the state land, thinking they'd survive.... yeah right!
