I am exhausted but the day ended fine. We are 90% done with the duck shelter/house and then I am going to set up the run for them tomorrow once I pick up more hardware cloth, fencing, and posts.

Tomorrow I also start on the rest of the coop. I found one of the EEs perched on the edge of the brooder twice today so I put a screen over it and made a materials list with cuts I need to make. Wish me luck because it won't be easy trying to eyeball the kids and build.

Raz, I have heard of people getting tickets for operating their lawnmower drunk but I think you need to be tooling around the streets and weaving into traffic first.

My orphan ducklings were getting too big for the tote brooder, so I sanitized the 100 gallon water trough that I use for a big brooder. While doing that, I put the ducklings in the sink so they could splash around. My new sink is 10 inches deep and sure enough, those little duckies were able to jump up and on to the counter. They are now in the big brooder, with mesh over the top. Keep those little ones contained. That might also work for your kids while you build.

Yep, you can get a DUI for driving a lawn tractor, but you need to be on public right of ways. In your own yard, an open beer is fine. Besides, it was only my first one of the day.

Geez, Raz. To keep such an eagle eye on you, this lady sure does have an awful lot of time on her hands, doesn't she? What's next?
Don't work without a shirt on or you'll find yourself cited for indecent exposure.

All right Sarah....

Mom got rid of her banties. Sent them to live with RBahmer, who has decided to keep them all and not share.
Juise is a day older.
Silly has royal palm turkey babies.
And Henry and Penelope the geese have babies also.. I forgot who has them now... Oh well.
Farmerboy is certain his emu eggs are not going to hatch... maybe 1 will.
Yorkchick has a new incubator to play with, and her hubby has a new job! WOOH HOO!
Brethren has bear worries.
Tap got robbed by the company that was supposed to "SECURE" her house, sent by the bank.
Opa is a granddaddy to twin girls
And as usual, RaZ is still under attack by the psycho neighbor. She just needs to get what chickens do every day. AND, that is pretty much the low down...

OH, and several new member have come into our warm circle of friends.

Dear heavens, I'm glad you clarified; I almost had to put you on block or something. For a second I thought nature was taking place outside your house!!!!

And we certainly can't be having that.

Woops, better not show you my lawn, then.

So can you get a DUI while mowing?

As long as you are on your own private property, I don't think so. I think the only way they could get you there is if you were endangering yourself, or disturbing the peace.

Ok since I've missed like 100 pages of posts, I'm not reading them all to catch up. Nova, wanna give me a recap??

How is the new job??
Wish me luck because it won't be easy trying to eyeball the kids and build.

I feel that one!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! We had a nice day, park, picnic, beautiful weather. :D

Question: The little chickies outgrew the roost they had, and I gave them a new, bigger one Friday. I put them all on it Friday night, and when I went to check on them a little later, only 2 of them were still on the roost and the other 4 were piling in the corner. I let them be, and figured that if any were using it the rest would catch on. So anyway, I just went in the coop to check on them tonight, and no one was there. I walked back out into the run, and all 6 of them are roosting on a board out there.

I was on the phone with my mum while doing this and I thought it was funny and told her. She freaked out, she thinks they are going to get too cold and that they're too dumb to know better. She wants me to move them all inside the coop.

Do you think I actually should do this? I wasn't worried about it, and honestly, the coop door is open anyway, so aside from being more protected from wind, I don't think it is much warmer in there. But I figured I would check with you guys anyway.

Oh, Nova, look at this:

They are asking $75 for it, don't know how easily you can tell, but there are actually window panes in there, and the roof is shingled. It's 8' long, and just shy of 4' deep. I think it was 5' at the front, maybe 6, I `can't remember. Anyway, if my DH won't give in, I might tell you where it is.
