Happy Monday.......

Had a good weekend... drove the Challenger to Holland for the last weekend of the tulip festival (no tulips though,

) and lake MI, I love lake MI, spent a lot of time out there during the summers when I was growing up. I head that direction vs up north, anytime I can. The day we drove back from the lake, we drove across MI down to Monroe to visit the DMIL. So that was a long day. Sunday I was a little bummed that my DSD didn't call me, but that's how it goes being the step mom. I guess she called and wished her dad luck on his new job, but nothing about mothers day, needless to say, I wasn't feeling the love yesterday.

Sunday went to my moms and weeded/replanted one of her flower gardens. Went shopping with her to find a snowball plant to put in the garden. Hope everyone else had a great Mother Day.
DH starts his new job today...

he also got a call from a head hunter about another job. DH hated to do it, but he applied for that job too. (at 30K more a year, it's hard to say no).
I have 10 turkey chicks so far. (lost one) they're cute little peepers! I hate pulling them from mom, but she still wants to sit on the eggs. Next year I will manage them differently. I'll mark and pull eggs so she doesn't become over burdened (hoping the other hen will brood on her own eggs instead of add to moms pile) I may leave the last few chicks with her to raise. I'll be bringing a few to sell at chicken stock along with my d'uucle and bantam chicks (which will be free), also, if I have extra Silkie roos they will be coming along. I only want a few silkies and of course need to save room for the uggos too! With the DH on second shift now, I talked to my DF about helping me to save the old outhouse for another coop. DH thinks I shouldn't waste the time and just build one... but that's not the point! This outhouse is close to if not over 100 yrs old, it deserves to be preserved rather than rotting in my back yard. Plus there's the nostalgia of it coming from my DF's home. I've got memories of playing in (wasn't used then) it when I was little. And... since my dad is in his upper 70's I thought it would be fun for us to work together to fix something that would mean a lot to both of us.
I was hoping to ride my bike to work all week, but my battery decided to puke out this morning... so after spending all the time to get ready to ride, I had to change and take the car. DH orders the batteries on line so I don't even know if I'll be able to ride the bike this week.

Jen, congrats to your DH on the new job (wally world, I can only imagine how that job was!)!! I may also be interested in a Silkie (black one)
Opa, thanks for the gardening tips from me as well... I have debated on using straw, but we have voles too, so your experience probably just saved me a lot of work and frustration. I'll give preen a try.

thank you for the delightful hummingbirds Hillbilly Hen!

Opa, I will try the preen also! I have two bales of straw here but I also have voles..........so I will use the Preen

Nova - I like the idea of giving your duck a couple baby ducks. If one is a boy then you are all set for next year! What breed of duck do you have?

You all are way too nice. That wine is horrid. I've had two buck chuck from evil mart that was more tolerable.* It's not just that it's dry, I like dry wines -- it's that it's straight up nasty. I suppose you could pair it with food to make it taste better... turd kabobs would probably make it look pretty good. Maybe.

* Probably an exaggeration since I tried the whole two buck chuck fad exactly once and was promptly convinced they call it two buck CHUCK for a reason, almost CHUCKED up the one swig of wine that I'd taken along with all the dinner I ate before it.

For those looking at using Preen in the garden this year: if you're going to use the organic kind, just an FYI, it's just corn gluten meal. You can probably find it cheaper without the brand name. Also be aware that there is organic Preen and there is regular Preen. Make sure you get the one you want.

Nancy, they are weird... When I try and find ducks that look anything like them, I come up with, Buff Orpingtons... smaller... tan and white runners.... but not upright enough.... and Khaki and white campbells.... BUT... They are excellent layers.... SO... I think they are a mutt mix of those combinations.. The buff orpingtons look to be the closest to what I have, only mine stand up more and are taller than those, but theyre over all look aside from that is a very good match. But then I go and and look at the other two breeds and they look like they could be a crossing of the two... I took all the eggs out this morning right away. If they are not there, then Laia... or is it Leah... Sheesh, those girls confuse me they look so alike... Well anyway, I think its Laia when I really look good... Anyway, she won't stay in the nest and goes about her day digging and eating, swimming and crapping as happy as a duck. HA.

There are 2 coats of primer on the new bee hive. They are now drying in the sun. I'll paint the colour in a little while and hope it dries quickly so I can transfer the bees to their permanent hive.

Lemon, the Uggo laid another egg, 39 grams. She seems to be on the same schedule as Broast (BSL). They were both in the nest box at the same time. The other Uggo, Pepper laid hers late in the afternoon, it was 52 grams.
