Another day, another dog/duck dance. This time it was my golden retriever that caught a wayward orphan. The duckling was fine and hopefully learned a lesson about staying in the run with the other birds.

Uggos are laying eggs every day and are now topping 40 grams. Not only are they challenged in the looks department, their egg song is just as ugly. Sounds like a crow serenading alley cats mating.

Anyone else notice that it seems to be a banner year for robins? There are a dozen or more here all day long along with their fledglings.

Years ago when I had geese and ducks I had a messed up African gander.Instead of mating with a goose he found one duck apparentley too sexy. It was a female Rouen (sp). He followed her everywhere. She would mate with the male ducks, make a nest, lay eggs, and then sit on the eggs. This gander was ever so patient and in love with this duck he would stay by the nest and when the babies hatched off he would go with momma duck and babies. My friend and I named him Norton. At the time I was working in a restraunt and there was this one guy named Norton that would nail anything that walked if he could. So we named the gander after him LOL.

Gotta post a pic of Lil' Blu
Awww. she's cute. I am such a sucker for those puffy cheeks!

Last night I said this was going to be a long week and I wasn't kidding. We have had our first mystery coop death.

Thanks for the input on the chicks, everyone. So they ARE having nightlight withdrawals. Can't do anything for them, I have them in a large metal dog kennel in my camper coop, with a perch and straw to snuggle in. I was feeling kinda bad for the rest of my birds, this was not a cheep cheep, but a SHREIK SHREIK! I tried to hold them, to no avail. I gave up before i got a worse headache. They will get their own quarters until i am sure the others will play nice.

well today is my husbands last day off because he starts his new job this monday! :) We've been out in the yard working on the coop rebuild that I started about a month or so ago. I managed to get up on the old nasty roof and no fall through...now we're taking a lunch break and then going out to start putting on the new roof. After that the floor and interior cooping, the entry-side wall and then painting! I have the next 9 days off work so lots of time to get some things done!!

Taprock

Forgot to tell you I have sold guineas in the past, so let me know if you're interested. PM me.

Dang hot again today. It's hit 94 already. Strrange, strange weather this year.

How are you doing TC? Haven't seen you over here in a spell.
Busy with the new puppy. When our old Corgi died a month ago, Himself wanted a new dog right away. So we got a 9 month old Airedale rescue.

Talk about chaos! This puppy is big and untrained. I spend most every hour daily working with her.

Then it's the chicken/duck hatching/ bunny growing season.

I have popped in a couple of times just to read the posts though

Had to find out what went on with RaZ and the "ticket"

We decided it was too hot to work through the mid-day and went shopping instead. Now we're home eating turkey pitas and trying to convince the puppy that water is fun. So far he's... mildly convinced.

Gotta get back to planting, but will wait until after dinner when it's cool. Work smart, not hard. Or something like that.

It IS too hot. Apparently the local weather forecast says the observed high for the day was 90 degrees. No wonder I am melting! The chickens are all hiding in the shade. I know the goats are uncomfortable, too. They're laying in the shade panting, and I put ice cubes in their water bucket. I wish they liked water, I'd set up a mister for them. But at the first raindrop they run squalling for cover!

I hit Walgreens and picked up a pool for the kids. Oh boy. Makes it better for them. Put the climbing cube with the slide next to it so they could have more fun. They normally are not home Saturdays and Sundays. But since their dad is staying... Needless to say, the oldest is PO cuz they normally do things, and his dad has been sleeping pretty much all day. Got the snow sleds filled with water and placed all over the yard for the chickens and fresh water in the duck pool.

It apparently is the day for rooster fighting. I let Leila's family out of the tractor so they could wander. Skeeter already has her littles out of the coop. I have no idea HOW she plans on getting them back in. Skatter hasn't left the garage, even though I opened the side of the brooder for them to go out if she wants. She doesn't.

Back to the rooster fighting... SO, since Roger is in the tractor with Leila, he is out too. He decided that he was going to fight with the unnamed cockerel. He has a bit of blood above the eye, a little ouch on his ear, behind his ear... As for the other one... Well, he is hiding in the garage on a shelf in the dark. Roger was not easy pickings for him to fight with. AND I do mean fight. Not the fighting unnamed cockerel does with his brood mates... but for real I am bigger than you and I am going to prove it fighting. Roger just whooped his tail feathers. Poor guys has feathers ripped out all over the place. LOL. I don't think he'll be back for more for a bit.

Its 93 here... ugh...
