My chicks arrived at 5 pm!

The Post office in Saginaw sent a van all the way up here to deliver them tonight rather than send them on the morning truck which they always do. I can only assume it's because they happened to get 4 other orders for the area as well. The gal had one more delivery after mine over in Lincoln. I had to yell for DH and scramble to finish getting the brooder back together. I'd been cleaning it. Dang but this old broad can move fast when she has to.

24 of the chicks are doing great. One was cold and listless, got him in a hospital box with his own heat source and I'm trying sugar water with a dropper.

Oh hey, he's standing up! I'm still not expecting him to survive but you never know.

Juise-

sedum, phlox, and lily of the valley and moss. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, you are going to be in Opa's backyard and I am going to be here...in RaZs backyard. Literally.

Unless you plan on coming to bbq at RaZs, I will have to wait until Chickenstock.
BUT BUT BUT if you come to RaZs, I could bring your chickens...

Who else? I had more to say...

Got another bad headache I think I am allergic to home. Actually, this hit me while I was at work, so I cant blame home.

Silly Chicken-- I will bring the chicks unless Nigellas says NOOOOOOOOO...but, why dont you come to RaZs?

Glad you got your chicks. Good thing Saginaw was on the ball

Wire is quite acceptable however, you will need to watch a little more diligently for any evidence of toe peck. Toe peck is quite common with chicks and when in shavings they are a little less prone to doing it. Keeping a red light on the birds can help as it tends to make blood a little less obvious.

Alright, Mom, I am most likely (there is a chance I don't go,) headed to Howell / Brighton this weekend. How far away is that from you? I can bring along some groundcovers. I have moss, pachysandra, wild geraniums, sedum, phlox, and lily of the valley. I only have the larger sedum able to be split right now, I have 4 or 5 varieties of miniature sedums that are not established enough to be split yet, maybe next year! They are my favourite. I can also bring milkweed and hosta if you would like them. I may be able to find some more Lamiastrum, which is a variegated vine, but know that it is invasive. I just dug up what I could find easily and moved it to baskets. Let me know how far you are from there and which of these you would like, (aside from the moss and milkweed I know you want,) and I will see if we can work something out. I may be able to meet you part way, how far depends on what I can convince DH of.

I'm about 1/2 way between, I believe - I'm happy to drive anything over there if you want to drop it off here instead of going there. But you should go there. Baby skunk needs love. ;)

Mom2 and Nigellas... if it works out for both of you to bring the uggos to Nigellas, I'm fine with that. What ever works for you guys! Just let me know!
Nigellas, I'll bring you some hostas too. How many do you want? I have several!
Yup, I can bring them home with me if you want o pick them up on Monday or whatever. :) Hostas are much appreciated - 2? 3? I don't want to wipe you out. :)

I love broody hens. I have four right now and two more that are broody somewhere in the woods. My incubator turner broke so the four are all sitting on eggs that aren't theirs. There are modern game, silkie, runner duck, EE, bantam cross, and layer cross eggs. The bantam crosses are dominique/pheonix (they are actually half bantam half standard) or cochin/malay and I selectively breed them for broodies. Layer crosses are mostly black sex link/cochin bantam X dominique. I have two cochin/black sex link hens that are broody and they are the best broodies I've ever had. Also a dominique and a cochin bantam that are broody. The broodies in the woods are an australorp and a malay bantam. I need to find those two so I can hatch even more chicks! It is addicting.
I love watching a broody care for chicks - it's so sweet to watch. :)
As in the weed? Really? I have a full field of it that we mow down - except for the ones with eggs and caterpillars. I'll dig you some if you want them.

Also anyone going to cs want some Jerusalem Artichokes? If so I'll also dig some of them up.
I'd love some if you have extra. :)

are you going to the swap in Charlotte? We are going and hope to see some other BYCers there as well.
No... sorry.

I am picking up all my chickens this weekend though.

And I will, officially, NOT be going to CS. I have a wedding party to go to.
I wish I could meet you all in person, but you will just have to deal with my crazy chicken lady posts for now.

The teacher that hatched out my one chick said he is really imprinted on humans... I might have a house chicken or a new shadow. Hehe.

Here is the breakdown of my chickens:
1- 2week old RIR/Black copper maran (we think) chick FRIDAY
2- Under 1week Araucana chicks FRIDAY
2- 2month old? Uggos courtesy of Mom2 SUNDAY
