Nope, just two chocolate colored eggs

WOW. I swear those 4 look like black copper marans. They are beautiful whatever they are though.

Morning Sam, you going fishing this weekend? Actually have DH thinking about it, we haven't fished in years and it's the free weekend. I suppose lots of people will be out there. May take out the canoe and just fish the local Mud Lake here in BC. We'll see, DH is notorious for suggesting something and not follow through. *sigh*

I fully intend to enjoy the day, got the majority of my veggie plants in the ground the last 2 days so I may actually get to sit back and relax a bit with some lemonade out on the deck. Then I can spend the afternoon chasing the ducks back off of it. What is it with ducks that have this huge lawn to play around in but they want to come up and sit together on my deck and poop all over it? DH thinks it's because it's the high point in the yard. I suggested we ought to build them their own higher deck then with the old deck boards he pulled up and have been sitting in the side yard for 2 years now. I think he's thinking about it.

Oh, I may have to mow the lawn today, too.
Looks as if the day is starting out glorious. I hope everyone get to enjoy it.

Welcome Fam!

Last year I kept wishing for a broody and none of my hens would do so. I also had a bunch of chicks sent from Kathy. One of them went broody just after laying her first egg. This year I have had 6 different girls go broody, all of them from Kathy's stock. Two BR's, one Delaware, one NH, one black ameracuana, and now a Jersey Giant. I also had another NH that was thinking about it so it probably won't be long now before she commits.

Wednesday I had 4 olive eggers and two marans hatch

Wow, beauties! Increasing your flock? I thought you were cutting back? So, I got rid of my two BR roos and guess what, a week later I hear crowing and there's a (maybe 6 month old) Buff Brahma Roo pacing back and forth by my hen house, and crowing to beat the band. Now he won't leave. I'm putting out a sign "Found Rooster" and I hope someone claims him. As it is 5 of my new 10 "pullets" are turing into freezer camp roos!

Just a note on Angel Wing in Ducks. I wrapped with koflex and used a piece of nylon stocking as physical therapy. I never left it on more than a hour a day and after a week the metacarpal section refolded into the proper form. The Khaki Campbell hen is in perfect form with no more Angel Wing. The only drawback was she layed in the dogs bed while I watched TV at night so the Blue Heeler was forced to lay on the couch. I'm glad they get along so well.

Fishing sounds like a lot more fun then what I have to do this weekend.

CS is almost here! 15 days!!

John that is fantastic. Do you have photos? I would love to learn how to do that!

You have to have another rabbits morning poo for them to eat

Rabbits are made funny that way. Their guts are built backwards so they have to eat everything twice to get the nutrients. They need another rabbits poo to eat to establish good bacteria in their guts... Good luck!! Mine always get diarrhea and die

Ummm...not really sure who told you that...but I've never heard of that before in the 20 years I've been showing/raising/breeding rabbits. Rabbits do eat thier own poop to get more out of it, but not all the time. Just if they are lacking. A good quality feed is all it takes. Half of my rabbits are on wire cages and don't have access to thier poop and definately not to other rabbits poop! Sounds like your rabbits got coccidia or bloat. (were they your pets or wild ones?)
Anyways, the best thing to do for an injured wild rabbit is to stick it somewhere "safe" and walk away. There's a bazzilion more where that one came from and if it doesn't make it then something will eat it and the circle of life will continue!

If the little brown one comes up missing, do not come looking here.

It was an escape artist morning here to start the day.

Both mallard drakes flew over the fence into Potsy's back yard so I had to go fetch them back home. One took wing and flew back over the fence but I had to net the other one. Then while getting him back, I didn't get the gate fully latched and the golden decided to venture out while my back was turned. Found her 2 doors down. She came home and the cata-healer beat up on her for leaving.

Such a nice day in in store. Three eggs already and Broil jumped in the box while I collected the bounty. I think I'll till the run and get the backyard shaped up for company this Sunday. What started as a simple chicken swap has turned into a party.
