I don't know if it technically 'bolts' or whatever, I'm just worried about it flowering. DH seems a bit.....skeptical.....that it will still taste good once it gets to that point. I have read about cutting the main crown and then harvesting the side-shoots later though. Should be interesting to see how it all ends up! If all goes well I will definately be buying a LOT more broccoli next spring to plant.Brocccoli doesn't really bolt does it ? My experience has been thet once the first , hopefully , large head is cut or lacking dilligent care, flowers, smaller side shoots form small bunches of whatever they are called, not heads? Those are harvestable up to frost and sometimes later.
They are not as pretty, 'but they eat good.
I lost 7 five week old meaties by noon today. Checked them at 11 am and they were ok, at noon 4 were dead and lost 3 more within a half hour but I was able to bring back 3 that were pretty bad off so I'm down to 19![]()
Doing a bit better today, been real sick from the heat. Almost had to go in yesterday evening, but on "bed rest" today until it cools down some. So far all is well with the birds, they been digging down into the cool dirt under the camper.
Hope all of you stay safe with the heat and the fireworks!
I cannot find where Olive got the idea that raccoons, or any other animal can be an actual "carrier" of rabies. According to everything I have been able to find, an animal must have rabies in order to be able to give it to another animal. If that is the criteria to be a carrier, then every animal is a carrier for every disease they are susecptable to. Which makes the term meaningless.
Tough raising meaties this time of year. Last year I started around easter and lost one. This year I started earlier and had no losses. Fall meaties can also be a challenge. CX grow so fast their metabolism causes body heat way beyond normal DPs (not that your's are CX). Good luck and watch the heat index the next few days. A fan moving air some mist for evaporative cooling go a long way. JohnI lost 7 five week old meaties by noon today.
