One thing I noticed about my cockerels versus meat birds, is the cockerel needs a slow long cooking, where as the meat bird... Well regular cooking is good. I cooked one of the cockerels Sunday dinner style, and it was just like you said yours was. I have decided slow cooker for those is preferable.
this touch pad... I caught it before posting... It changed cockerel to effers... What! It changes hell to he'll. But how the heck did it get THAT word out of cockerel?
My Iphone does the same thing. I hate auto correct.

DH was a sweetie, and bought us an air conditioner. Couldn't afford it, really, but he didn't like me being so sick. Feel like a big wimp, never had that happen before.

So far all the birds are ok! I have been letting them free range and keeping the equivalent of an ice cream bucket with a bit of cold water, just enough to reach up to their "bloomers". lol. They seem to enjoy it after the initial shock. My little hen treated the bucket as her personal pool, got mad and didn't want to share! The blood in their feet goes directly to the liver and whatnot, so it is almost an instant cool down.

Hawks....... Well, in the past we shot fireworks up in their direction, didn't hurt them but after a few times they were scared off. Wouldn't do that now though, with all the dryness!

It was miserable at work for it was so hot, that I was sweating non-stop for the whole time. Came home with a pounding headache.

My midwife always told me that three biggest causes of headaches were:

1.) Not enough water.
2.) Not enough iron.
3.) Not enough protein.

I get headaches often, and before I take an ibuprofen I first try drinking a large glass of water, taking a vitamin, and getting some protein, which can be as simple as a handful of peanuts. It almost always works, (provided it is "just" a headache and not a migraine, and provided it is not caused by lack of coffee...)

Make sure you are drinking lots and lots of water, it is very easy to get dehydrated in the heat.

I do drink alot, but still get heat exhaustion. I have always get headaches, and get cranky when I am hot and over-heating, and exposed to the hot sun. I always start sweating waay before anyone else starts sweating. Even my dad said that I should move to Alaska!

Daron:  Are emu loud? I LOVE how they look with their racing stripes!!!... Maybe one day I will get some too! What do you plan on doing with them eggs/ meat/ looks???

They are not loud right now, they make quiet baby noises. They are for eggs, looks, and protection. :)

Update on Baby Micah!

My sister-in-law went to her check up on Tuesday, and this is the doctor's report-

Micah is swollen, as he is retaining fluids and he is not doing well, and will die soon as he gets born.

Sister-in-law's body is getting ready for labor, and she is only 6 months along. He will be born soon, but don't know when. It could be now to a few weeks. I am so sad for all three of them. :(

Hot again. Had another storm blow thru last nite. Very windy and the rain just pelted the windows. Coop was a bit wet this morning. Guess the girls got a shower in the process.

Keep Cool
The willows were horizontal and lost alot of branchs. I was up when it started at 4:30 am and was watching for hail. Too dark to see if there was rotation. Weather channel was worthless.

Sorry Daron. Sooo sad for all concerned.

So sad. Micah will continue to be in my prayers.

had the fan on the meaties all day. At the hottest point of threat I went out and forced them to be mister. After a few minutes of trying to get away, they finally got it through their little heads that it felt good. Started fluffing their feathers out and shaking the water off, or more like to get the water closer to the skin... The first time all day that they were not panting. I extended their coop with skids last night. Solid sides and top, fence under the bottom skid. Literally screw a skid off and on for the door. Lol, they didn't want to go in last night. Had to set them up there. They figured out pretty quick though that they have lots more room and now constant air flow through the whole thing. One more week... Gonna miss them little bowling balls. They are so cute! Love how they run, yes run, when I bring them watermelon. They dye themselves pink. Lol.

Sorry to give you bad news Mom, I found the bearded silkie hen missing today. Found her feathers, but not her. Not sure what got her. Not sure why she even left the meat pen where they always hang with the meaties until bed time. She was there when I went to work, but gone 4 hours later. Neighbor says one of his pullets is missing also. No alarm was sounded, so I think its the stray cat. Going to try and catch it... Hope it gets a severe feather ball and hacks itself to death. Yes, I like cats. I hate this one.

Plans for tomorrow... Keeping the birds cool... Yup... Have several bottles frozen, couple of pounds of frozen corn, watermelon, and a I think I might bring the big fan out and rig the mister... Well any way, I am seriously HOT! Was a crap day to be driving, which I am sure tee will back me on. 1 drank 88 ox of water in 4 hours, 20 of which was propel, and was so wet by the time I was done, I was worried some one in Meijer may thought I peed myself. Yes, that bad!

My son is walking around with his underwear on the out side of his shorts... Darn super hero's.

Well got a jump on it this morning. Birds are all out, sorry neighbors. Threw my broody out to the feeders. Man is she vicious. Cleaned up the cat crap. My ma's cat.... He's getting old. Or lazy. Both. Time for him to go to the bridge. Now, I am going back to bed. Got 75° here with 79% humidity. Would jump in the pool, but I think I may have just walked through it.

Chickens are so stupid.

They are lucky I am a big hypocrite wuss or I would put them all in the freezer today.

I went into the chicken yard to place the sprinkler- and for some reason in their little pea-brains, they thought I had come in to kill them. Never mind that I had just come in with their food and they didnt think I was in to murder them.

Well, they started a panic pile up in the corner- including Mrs Stupid Frizzle with her two little babies sticking by her- and got one of them trampled by the NOTMeatie and HERSELF. She trampled it most of all trying to escape the BIG BAD BOOGIE-MAN.

And now, the little baby is in my lap dying. Cant tell whats broken on it, probably everything.
