Yeah I know! It must not have been too long because I read that you were on your way and I think I left 15 minutes later. Hey, you do know where I live you know!! lol

Yeah RB! The poor woman just had blood drawn and you couldn't even stop by for coffee?!? Tsk! Give her heck next time, Keyt.

I have a question that I know has been discussed here many times but as usual, it's one of those things I didn't pay attention to because it didn't affect me at the time.

How old is too old for chickens to be butchered to eat? I have some chickens I want to thin out. I'm not sure if they're still laying and I don't have time to figure it out. I want to sell them really cheap or give them to my nephew if he'll take them when he picks up chicks this weekend. I know some are around 4 years old and the rest are between 2-3 years old.

Never. The older they get the slower you cook them. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd pressure cook the 4 year olds, use the meat in soup or gravy or the like... something where it's shredded and then I'd make stock from the carcasses. The older the bird, the better the stock. The 2 year olds I'd slow roast in liquid heavy dishes.

As I lay in bed this morning, I placed two fingers against the side of my neck. Yep, I could feel a pulse so once again God has granted me the main ingredient for having a good day.

The first cup of coffee is already tasting like it needs to be followed by another and as the sky lightens enough to see out to the coops I spy another raccoon that ventured too close to my birds. That makes the 6th one this week and a quick shot has allowed him to join his playmates. While I regret having to dispatch any animal that I don't intend to eat, the coon population is out of control. This one gave me an additional reason to dislike him. My garden hose was within reach of the trap circle and he managed to chew up about a 3' section.

When A&E started showing it's new series "Longmire" I decided to check out the book series upon which the show was based. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the author Craig Johnson's efforts. Currently there are 8 books in the series and a 9th is due out later this year. They chronicle the investigations of the quirky sheriff in the Big Horn mountain area of Nevada.

oh wow! Ya, that would make me mad too!

I caught a couple really big ones last year and one of them was trying very hard to bust out of the live trap...he dug up all the ground under the trap (through the cage) and so the cage was filled with dirt and then he bent the heck out of the trigger plate! Almost bent it right in half. That was one angry coon! I can't believe how many I see in the morning/at night running around when I'm driving and how many I see squished on the road!

I'm not going to lie though, every time I see one squished I'm a little happy because it's one less out there doing damage!

haha you tell her!!

Thanks for the info on the birds.

Good morning Michigan, another beautiful clear-sky sunny morning, maybe someday I will get tired of saying that.

2 things I don't do - count my chickens (I always get it wrong anyway) and weigh myself.

Well we're off to tear down a barn. This should be in interesting since I tore ligaments in two fingers in my right hand. The good thing is the lady that owns the property said to take what we want and leave the rest there. It's a gorgeous property but it's hidden WAY far back off the road. It isn't easy to find though so that should be fun!

So I have 3 gorgeous rabbits. 1 fawn buck - approximately 3 years old, 1 chinchilla buck - approximately 3 years old and 1 grey lionhead doe 3 years old with pedigree. The two bucks came from Vicki, a former member here. They seriously need homes!! I will sell them individually at $10 ea or trade for something else. If anyone is interested let me know.

I'm at a doctor's office so often I wish I could get my weight wrong. But I'm also OCD so I don't get the chicken or duck numbers wrong either. lol
