There really is no such thing as 1 mouse. They are a community rodent. The mouse you saw was probably a scout/gatherer for the rodent population.
Live traps are inexpensive and are effective. It will need to be relocated after every catch. They are very intelligent and perceptive.
This is only an example of the type of live trap. You will need to find one with a smaller wire mesh.
