I bought her in January and she was labeled as a Midnight Maran from Hoover's Hatchery at my local Cal Ranch store but now that she is bigger I noticed she does not have the feathered feat listed on the website for her specific breed. What else could she possibly be?

My first thought was possibly Black Australorp, based on feather and foot color, but her eyes look too light for that breed. Some Marans are clean-legged, which makes me wonder if that genetic trait is expressed in your bird. If you search on the topic, there are several threads on BYC that you may find helpful, like this one: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/should-marans-have-feathered-legs.630118/.

She's very pretty and I hope she lays that dark brown egg Hoover's shows on their website for you. :)

There was another thread on here a while back about Hoover's Midnight Marans. It looks like Hoover's has crossed Marans with another breed/breeds to create a bird with the Marans dark eggs but with higher egg production.

If she produces as billed you should be able to tell her eggs from the other eggs in your mixed flock. Please post how much she lays compared to your other chickens.

I zoomed in and I think I see a little fuzz down the top of the leg. She does have brown coming through her feathers so I think she is what they said. Being a mix you can’t gaurantee any of the qualities and characteristics really. Kinda makes me curious what cross they used.

Please keep us updated! I’m also curious if it’s just part of the cross or what? Hope you get those beautiful dark eggs ( hope I do too)
She’s a pretty one!

Thank you so much everyone! I do hope she lays that dark brown egg. I will check out to see if I can see any thin fluff on her legs as well. She is not laying yet so I will definitely update on that when she does. I did see some links on clean legged midnight marana as well so that gives me hope! I appreciate all the replies!

Yes, they are a h being offered this year and as a result have no standard of appearance. In fact, of the ones that I have received this year I have at least one that's developing barred feathering which leads me to think that they have used any sex linked crossing for their hybrid… something that the hatchery representeive I have spoken to has denied repeatedly stating that" sometimes barring just shows up" but is not at all related to the gender of the bird… we will see, at this point the chick is only about 2 and a 1/2 weeks old
