Might get some Polish tomorrow - please tell me about them!!

I've never had polish, but I just want to say they're really pretty and cute! I only recently found out there are bantam polish.

Uh-oh, might have to find myself some buff-laced bantam polish! Not that I have room in my coop at the moment, but, you know, when I do have room.

Good luck with your potential new girls--post pictures if you bring them home!

Eggs are smallish like bantams, but as one already mentioned, they are eye candy and have maximum entertainment value.

Here is Big Bird, she is a Bearded Buff Laced.

This is her chick, we haven't named 'it' yet... waiting to figure out the gender. Papa was a White Crested Blue.

This is Cruela Deville. She got sick and I had to put her down. Wish I would have gotten some chicks out of her. Silver Spangled.

I've had some, and the hens were sweet because they were handled daily as babies, but the rooster was so flighty from running from other birds before I bought them. They all looked like 'friar tuck' with their bald spots, which healed over time. The rooster still kept getting pecked bloody in the head by my other birds. They were good escape artists, and pretty noisy. But overall cute hens. Can't go for another polish rooster, hated contact and attacked my son who did nothing to provoke him at the time. Nothing like my sweet d'uccles.

i have one polish.she was very flighty when i got her.then she got tamed down and followed me all around the yard.then once the big rooster started mating like crazy she was his main target and now shes afraid of everything.

Pros: Really friendly, attention loving, spastic, goons! They have alot of character and are such eye candy. Certain strains have been better suited over the years for producing more eggs than they are 'expected' to. My hatchery birds lay large amounts of eggs per week, almost one each day per bird.

Cons: The obvious, the crest. Crests cause vision restriction as well as a target for bullying birds to take their anger out on. They really can be a chew toy if not integrated properly or put into a group with domineering breeds. Feather-picking is not fun and can not only lead to balding, bloody, sickly looking birds, but can be very difficult to stop. I talk with experience. Make certain you provide all of your birds with space, and they are not very bored, and all should go well.

Besides the previous points mentioned, I have few complaints. Unfortunately, they don't usually have just one disposition. My Buff Laced is my friendliest, loving when I hold her and walk with her, and generally, a glutton for affection. My Silver Laced is a bit more skittish and is only now becoming used to me holding her, though she still eats from my hands. My Golden Laced really has never liked me since she was a chick and dislikes when I hold her. She only likes perching on me. My deceased WCB liked attention, food, but didn't always like being held. It's the luck of the draw.

Go ahead, try a few. But if anyone draws blood, take the injured bird away, right away, and do not introduce them again until they are fully healed.

YES !!!! You Must join the polish world, they are great.
they have great personalities, you will live them , you will love watching them they Are a hoot to watch.

only watch your other chickens with the polish, the polish get pecked on a lot because of there fluffy big crests, it is harder fro them to defend selves.

I love polish I've got an incubator full of polish eggs which I expect hatching next week. I fell in love with polish last spring when I got my WCB and she is by far my favorite hen, sweet as pie I

her antics, and she is very friendly. Now I want a flock of polish since I love them so. I plan on keeping polish and banties, no big birds for me, so far I've had no problems keeping my WCB polish hen with my other two banties everyone gets along splendid. My polish is by far the tamest out of the other hen's which include a cochin which I heard were sweet. Cant wait to here about you new additions, I dont think you'll be disappointed.
