Might lose Delilah... UPDATE: Seems Okay At the Moment

I'm just glad she's still with us.

Delilah is great today. In fact, for some reason, she is following me and DH around much more than usual. She isn't one to be super-cuddly, though she's a sweet girl. It reminds me of my Buff Orp, Sunny, who went broody about a month after she began laying. The eggs were not fertile and I couldn't break her up-tried everything suggested and then some.
By the end of the 21 days, she was dehydrated and malnourished, in spite of us taking her off the nest once a day. She began to twitch, her head turned to the side and she couldn't walk. We had to do emergency measures to save her and after that episode, standoffish Sunny became a real pet. I'm beginning to think they really understand when we are trying to help them.

You probably are right there Cyn. I think they are definitely smarter than most give them credit to be.

Glad that your DeDe has recovered from whatever was wrong with her!

You watch, now they'll all start faking sick so they get the royal treatment. She's probably out there right now telling all the other girls that if they fake sick they'll get to go inside where it's warm and get held and cuddled and all kinds of goodies. You know how the chickens are

Glad she's doing good.

DeDe is still doing very well, even laid an egg yesterday. She follows us all over the place now, whereas she never used to do that. That's okay. I like looking at that big girl; after all, she is Suede and Velvet's daughter. I do have another daughter of Suede's, Glenda, but her mama is my Buff Brahma.

Now if my little Tux will pass whatever she's trying to pass. She's having egg issues, straining and standing hunched, but with her spine upright. We did the warm bath, lube her up thing yesterday, so maybe her body will work it out. She came out of her molt lately; She started it with a soft shelled egg we pulled from her bum. What on earth is the deal with these ladies? At least it isn't internal laying with Tux that I can tell. Delilah is doing great, Ivy is laying again and has regained alot of her weight when she looked on death's door, so I'm happy about that.

Is this the first year you've had problems, Cyn? To this extent, anyway? A thought occured to me... do you get your water from a well, and if so, have you had it tested? The reason I ask is that we have a well, and when we tested the water we found that it, as well as most of the others on the Peninsula, have naturally occuring HIGH levels of arsenic in it. I just wonder if there might be something in the water that's messing with their systems?

Just a thought.
I'm glad that your girls are doing better.
