Even as pets, they still need to be able to fly. We also have cats in the house, and while they know they aren't allowed near the bird, it's still in their instincts to try and catch them.

So, you still have any???My grandparents had two yellow & green parakeets named Sharon and Doug. Then Sharon laid a egg, incubated it, and hatched it. I named the chick Heart. (I was about 6-7 at the time) Then about a year later Sharon laid another egg, incubated it, and hatched it. My sister named the chick George. George sadly had a malformed beak, but he survived. We had to trim his beak every 4-6 weeks though.
Yeah, I'm sorry, but if my budgie was hopping along the floor trying to fly, the cats would be all over it. The dogs know better, but I wouldn't put it past two of them.
Flying budgie = safe budgie.

No.Sharon died 5 years ago, Doug died 4 years ago, Heart died 2 years ago, and George died last year. I would get more parakeets but my cats would try to eat them I'm sure.![]()
