Milk, bread and toilet paper southern style

The only traffic is the pick up trucks with 4wd. this shows the 4 inches frozen icy slush, typical for any place in Atlanta

Three days ! Three days this white stuff has stuck around, very unusual for us. It's settled to about 4 inches with a nice crisp ice layer on top.

One of the stupid hens went into a hard molt two weeks ago, and now is in the recovery dog crate in the living room, having been found huddled, shivering and too thin. The other stupid birds are fine now that I covered all the white stuff with hay in their tractor.

Edited to add: Still have milk and bread. DS is running errands for the farm he works at, buying more diesel, shavings, etc., so I asked him to pick up chips and sodas if the gas station there has 'em. No school again tomorrow! Have no mail service either. I'm bored. DH is bored. Everybody is bored.

Ha ha ha... That is awesome.

There's a town in NC that actually has gotten more snow than our town in Michigan this winter. We're under a cold and dry pattern... There's plenty of snow on the ground, but we're only getting 2-4" at a time. It's frustrating for the snowmobilers and snow-lovers in general. Everyone's waiting for a big storm and we haven't seen anything impressive yet this year.

We are still shut down here. Third day of no school, only a hand full of businesses open yesterday, and about 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground. The roads are gradually becoming better, still some slick spots where the sun doesnt shine. I may try to get out today. DH came and got us yesterday to get out for awhile. My car should be able to get back up our drive...

Central NC here. 3rd day of no school for kiddos. So 3rd day of no paycheck for me. I hope they delay and go in at 10 a.m. tommorow. It is currently 35 and we are having a melt that will refreeze tonight. Dh missed monday and tuesday went to work today. He had issues getting to major rd at 9 a.m. Ymca is opening at 11 it has crossed my mind to try to get out. But I don't think I will try. DH has been told to bring home milk. 2 kids and 2 adults in snow/ice means we ate a lot of cereal and a lot of hot choclate.

We stayed busy doing paint by numbers, and 1000 pc puzzle that is now 1/2 done. I too am bored and this is my reg grocery day.

My neighbors are sledding.....by driving their kubota golf cart tractor thingy around, pulling the kids on sleds, in the field with donkeys and horses. This is good entertainment.

New pix from today.

Hoop top on coop is collapsing from weight of snow and ice.

I was able to knock some snow off but the hoop itself is bent/broken. Ah well, will fix and make bigger and better next time.

Little cochin coop is covered in snow as well. Had to brush it all off.

Chickens are happy though!

well, at least the cochins in that coop.....all the "big birds" that have to go out in the snow are not impressed at all.

Where we are in NC, we got almost only ice, not snow, and it's still here! I hate ice. Snow isn't as bad. The whole yard is slippery and very dangerous to walk around on. The chickens are nice and dry in their covered run, but their water gets icy really quick so we are bringing them warm water every couple of hours. It's sunny today, but windy and cold, so not much is melting in the woodsy area I'm in. When we usually get snow here, it never lasts long because the temps are warmer the next day and it all melts. It's staying cold, so the ice is really sticking around! Put the kids to work though, their closets and bedroom are all cleaned out!

hmmm, getting the spring cleaning done early, now that's an idea. But I've got this warm cat on my lap, a nice cup of, and all these seed catalogs. Every time I glance out the window, I'm vaguely surprized its all still there after four days. Today we went out to the grocery store. I thanked every clerk I met for coming in. Their parking lot is solid ice, very - interesting - to drive in on.

Cold hen back in the coop; was doing well at the hourly checks all afternoon. Silly bird.

Same thing happened to mine. Except my PVC didn't break, but it's all squished. I knew it would happen, but I couldn't figure a way to fix it before the snow hit
hu.gif

oh well. Me and DH knocked the worst of the snow off so it wouldn't further-collapse.

I plan on using 3/4" pvc instead of 1/2" and using a wood brace at the top instead of pvc....along with a post at the end to hold the brace up. I have wire up another 2 feet above the hoop, so there was no way to get the snow off. That wire will be removed as well. In the future I just need to knock it off ahead of time to keep it from getting warped, but the future hoop should be sturdy enough to stay up.
