Genny,

Your babies are adorable. I'm so pleased that you have the start of a nice flock. Thanks so much for posting pics. I never get tired of seeing the birds, especially when they came from some of my eggs

Ok, here's an update of my little speckled girl that was out of my "off" colored hen

Here's the hen

and here's the pullet as a chick

here she is all grown up

She turned out very pretty but super dark base color. Im too far into this to turn back

so Im keeping her to see what happens when I put her back to BC

Here are a couple of my outcrosses to a buff columbian x mottled. The roo was displaying the silver gene so I will probably cull his little silver son in pic 3 and keep the darker roo with rusty streaks

Here is one of the few buff based birds I got. She doesn't have very much black but, Im hoping she will have some of the type that her daddy had

Here's another pullet

and the boys

I hatched quite a few more and wound up with almost 2 dozen cockerels! maybe 6 pullets. Im calling this the year of the rooster as I am hatching easily 75% boys in all of my varieties.

Gorgeous birds, everyone! I love the new additions and the photos of the ones growing up.

Just keep in mind that even after 6 mths old you may see some major color/pattern changes you never thought would come out. I have seen such black or dark chicks at 4-5 mths old get tremendous white on them later. Please do not give up on them.
Even my pure Mottleds have been very black for the first year or 18 mths only to molt out a lot whiter. I was told on this thread that it could happen and sure enough, it did!

Now if I couold just get my MFC birds back to the conformation of my whites or Mottleds I would be much happier. I am working with buff Columbian and Mottleds to try and get that back so another few years may show some progress in that direction.

And at some point I believe I will try breeding to one of my best whites to see what I get. Maybe a too dark roo with good form or even a too dark pullet that is in need of better form. So many possibilities .......

Earlier I posted pics of my MF babies I hatched out from Lynne...

Now I am getting scared because EVERYONE has big wattles and similar combs... they are 7 weeks. Please tell me pullets can start out with big wattles too...

After looking at my younger group, I think I may just have the year of the pullets

I did that this year. I had nobody old enough for my partridgey looking MF pullet, so I bred her to my good white rooster.

Here's what we got:

This is the upper right hand chick at 3 mos.

My little cochin "mosh pit" taking in the sun yesterday. Now just over 5 weeks old I think I can tell the boys from the girls. These guys are changing every day though. So pretty and very inquisitive.

If any of you breeders have eggs available would you PM me please? Of the 26 I had in my bator, most were clear, and none hatched. Like to try again.
