Mille Cochin Info

Too sweet! It will be fun to watch them grow and see if they are more inclined toward Calico or MF.

Are they about the same age? If so, looks like cockerel in the 1st pic, and pullet in the 2nd pic.

Coopa, yes they are the same age exactly! I got them as eggs from FFFancies here on BYC as MFC's so I don't know too much about the difference between them and Calicos! Looks like I have my research cut out for me tonight! Thanks for the input! They are cuties either way and I truly am enjoying them!

Even though the MF coloring hasn't been perfected yet, "Calicos" are a sport of MF's, where the bird appears to be more white with orange/red and black spotting, rather than the buff/orange bird with the black and white chevrons. There are a lot of people that find the Calico coloring equally as appealing as the MF. It is believed that the more predominantly white appearance comes from a "hysterical mottling" gene, which causes the white mottling to extend farther up the feather shaft instead of just staying at the tip. It (the gene) is also seen in Seramas.

If she's reading this, BluffCountryShepardess can jump in - she's working very heavily now with the Calicos and has some real beauties!

A flock of both Calicos and MF's can be truly stunning!! I think the colors really complement each other.

Is that Ralphy LaRoo?
My very novice guess is - Pullet.
Both are so cute!

mj, yes, that is Ralph LaRoo! He's getting more "manly" by the day! He is a little cuddle bug though!

This little pullet is very snuggly. My three little roos want to sit on my shoulders. Since I only have two shoulders one usually ends up on my head after a chicken "wrastling" match. My husband thinks it is quite funny but I don't care. Almost everyday I think about how glad I am to have picked cochins. I really like their personality. BYC Breed Info. was the start of my search.

mj, she's adorable! I have two that look very similar to her! One of them is always the first in line to anything!
