Mille Cochin Info

That's very true, and I'm not showing them to win, just to have a judge explain what I need to focus on for body structure and feather developement. Also maybe get people curious and wanting to buy some an help us get this a standard and them be able to win. I think I could still place my class but cannot bit cannot be a grand champion if I'm correct. Thanks

I'm not sure how it works, I do know that you can not top someone that has a bird that is in the standard, but how

As it stands right now, you can show in AOV (Any Other Variety). You could win a best of AOV, but you could not win best in breed or anything higher than that.

UNLESS the judge doesn't know what he/se is doing.

During the summer, I sold a pair of my birds to a local lady. She turned right around and entered them in the Wilson County Fair. She entered them as "flowered", not as mille fleur.

The judge gave them Best Cockerel and Best Pullet of breed. They got ribbons and everything.

I got 7 Mille Fleurs out of 12 eggs. 3 were infertile 2 only made it half way. One had a heck of a time getting out and it's still in the bator drying. It's got lots of eggs stuck to it I'm going to have to soak off.

I got 4 Lemon Blue Cochins out of 8.The rest were scrambled inside from shipping. One looks lemon bluish the other three are black.

Darn. lol One of the black ones has splay leg badly so I will have to see if I can fix them.

I also got 1 out of1 EE, and 1 out of 1 Brahma that I added from my own eggs.

They are soooo cute. But I must say the little Lemon Blue is the cutest. And best of all. She looks like a little girl.

I will try to get some pictures today.

Chickenlittle,
I have been meaning to tell you that I also am a MJ fan!

I had my one and only child at age 33 and she is a teen that has all the MJ music as well. I listened a lot while I was pregnant, guess that imprinted her. I don't let my chickens listen to it but I do sing it to them! Not as well, of course.
The chickens listen to country music some and sometimes I swear I hear them square dancing and clogging down in the barnyard!

Anyhow, someone came to buy chickens yesterday and wanted my MF chicks. I told them they weren't for sale. Still pestering me they kept asking how much. I finally gave a price I would take for them. One hundred dollars each. They are still here. Whew!

One of the feedstores in town is family owned and they sold birds, fish, rabbits . . . ect. They had a tank of fish that were special and huge and a sign that said not for sale. Well that changed after they had been open for about six months to $150/each. They got tired of the constant questions about why won't you sell them. You need a sign listing the price then you don't have to go through the questions it is asked and answered. Make it a price you won't regret when they open their wallets.

OMG Kinder,

I am soooooooooo happy for you & your new babies. Don't be ready to cull the black chicks from the LB hatch. Sometimes the black fades into a dark blue that is lovely...also the mantle can get the lemon gold feathering. They take so long to mature that you really won't know what they will be until about 6 months.

We really do need pics!!!!!! Again many congrats & best wishes on a terrific hatch of shipped eggs.

Alright here a a few little pictures. I will snap some more hopefully tonight. A MFC and LB have some shell stuck so I didn't photograph them. Nor the splay leg right now.

The one MFC is still in the Bator. Isn't doing well. But I'm hopfeul it will still pull through.

Don't worry I plan on keeping the Black LB's. I figure like all Blue/Black/Splash. If I breed a Lemon Blue with a 'Lemon Black' I should get some of both colors.

They are all very sweet and calm compared to most chicks.

If the photos are too big just refresh your window.

Just popping in to say "Hello" from Colorado...I've been taking time off from BYC while my husband and I have been housebuilding. He's gone on a trip for few days and rather than wander around, not knowing what to do without a hammer in my hand, I am getting a leetle camera happy!

This is Hongo (Spanish for "mushroom"):
