Mille Cochin Info

KinderKorner, absolutely gorgeous chicks! But then who couldn't love those little darlings. They are so hugable.

Rosemary, those are very beautiful birds.

I love looking at everyone's beautiful chicks and grown birds.

Hello,
I have taken a break from BYC as well, busy all summer with the horses and showing.
My mille Fleur cochins are growing up nicely. I have 6 that I purchased as chicks. They are still young, there are two roosters and 4 hens.
Here are photos of the ones I could get to stand still long enough.

I really like these little guys. I am looking for a couple buff columbian cochins to help with color. Any ideas where to get some nice quality ones?

OMG! All the pictures are SO beautiful. I am so in love with those baby chicks! I think I'd want to bring them in the house and sleep with them! You can already see the cute little round, Cochin shape. I. Need. Baby. Cochins.....

Actually, I do have 13 black, cochin eggs (courtesy of "Shine", "Silk" and "Satin") in a friend's incubator! My mfc project birds are still too young to be laying eggs. Soon though!

I may just have a little chat with my pullets and cockerals tomorrow...

Wow! There are more MFC out there than I realized. How wonderful. And beautiful! Everyone's chickens are so beautiful I keep getting more and more excited about my chicks growing up and then trying to breed for color and type.

At least, Nancy, you are further along than I am! I have 3 1/2 wk old chicks that it seems to me will never grow up!

But at least being able to hatch out some from the other trios will keep me occupied as those grow. You gotta stay positive here.

Bad news folks. The little MFC that had trouble with hatching is not doing good. I knew there was something just not right with it. It sleeps all the time. It's feet are curled, one leg seems to be deformed, and it makes a click when it breaths.

I believe it will die soon. If not I may have to cull it. And I just don't know if I can do that.

So that brings my Mille fleurs down to 6.

All my other chicks are doing healthy and great except the splay leg. It legs haven't improved. I will put a new bandage on today.

What a handsome rooster and beautiful hens, Camelot Farms! I can't wait to get my trio from Doc but am waiting for the shipping boxes I ordered to arrive so that I can mail one to her! 56 years old and still working on that "patience" thing...

KinderKorner ~ I'm sorry to hear that your one mfl chick is not doing well. I hope it goes peacefully. Can't wait to watch the rest of your chicks grow!

Nancy ~ heading out to clean the coop and put down fresh shavings before the Grandkids arrive...

Sackman,
I am wondering if this one will feather out a dark red and be a roo. Just my observations so far and I am wondering if eventually I will get one correct!

Please let us know how it develops and grows up. I want to keep up with how they hatch and grow on this project. I think it will help us learn what to look for when breeding.
