Mille Cochin Info

He is definitely a step in the right direction. See how his tail feathers fall downward instead of stick up. And, his breast color is really nice. I just love that multi tonal red... like rich mohogany on the hackles and saddle and orange vermillion on the breast... very reminiscent of d'uccle MF. I see someone has outcrossed for type. His feathers are looking a bit on the wider side as well..

You don't have him anymore?

Hi Rosemary! Whoever has Aureus now . . . they're very lucky! Shy has worked very hard on type improvement.

And glad to hear the weather hasn't totally impeded your housebuilding! That's one heck of a loom in the background!

No...but he is with a breeding (and show experienced) home.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Shylee has been aggressively busy with type and I totally offer her my kudos.

Gail...the loom is my salvation this winter! It has been so consistently cold (Meeker is this year's target spot for arctic blasts) that we've been total wimps, been very happy working indoors on the house and our art directions instead of braving it "out thar" much.

Fattie, he sure is pretty but, unfortunately, does not have type that would remind me of a cochin.. more d'uccley. He is so narrow with virtually no cushion and a comb that reaches for the stars. See in the last pic of him where you can see straight in between his legs and see his feet. That part should all be cushion. I understand that most people are shooting for color and pattern right now and just want pretty but, it gets to a point when we just can't call them cochins and I believe we've reached that point with this guy

The younger roo's coloring is slightly better. The strippling (stipes at the bottom of the hackle feather) in his hackles is something that I've seen go along with the mf pattern and he has the two tone orange vermillion that is so beautiful in mf roos. He doesn't have any black on his breast but, that's the least of his worries, I am afraid. He really needs a cushion and a comb improvement. He may fill out some but his tail.. again is sticking straight up and is not showing any signs of filling out like a cochin's would. I know you're on the cochins international website. If you're really into have nice birds, have you thought about contacting one of the other breeders and outcrossing to either mottled or BC?
